hi all i was wondering how the picture of the projector at 1080p at the same as a plasma or lcd screen at 1080p. also if its light in the room would the screen no work well. i hear with lcd screens when there light in the room u cant see the tv.deadmeat59
In order to get equal or comparable quality in 1080p on a projector versus plasma/LCD/DLP you would have to spend a hefty penny on your projector set up.
The projector, the screen, the necessary light dampening items...it adds up quick. And to think of it, to maximize the projectors quality to be comparable you'd seriously need a pro installer to tweak distance, color temp, height/angle, etc... it would be sweet, but expensive.
To clarify prices...Optima had their HD81 at the CEDIA Expo in Denver and it has relatively true 1080p quality, but is about as cheap as you could go to get good "1080p". Retail $7,000 to $8,000
Another example is Marantz VP11S1 - its one of their high quality 1080p projectos and it retails at about $20,000.
There are more expensive models and cheaper models, sadly that is one draw back to projectors, it's hard to find a place to shop them and see for yourself.

A well lit room doesn't lend itself well to projectors. It's best to have a dark room. Ask yourself; Is a movie theater well lit or dark? Ultimately it depends on your screen. The darker the screen the better the contrast but the less light gets reflected. The lighter the screen the better the visibility in light rooms but the worse the contrast! Just go with a dark room. LCD's do very well in a well lit room. It's one of the LCD's selling points.
1080p isn't 1080p. Just as if 720p and 720p aren't the same. You can't put a Spectre LCD that is 720p next to a Pioneer Elite 720p and get the same 720p quality. That's all I was saying. projectors naturally lend themselves to more variables that need to be controled to get a good picture.

1080p on projector or a LCD or whatever IS the same thing. It has nothing to do with the quality of the display. Like you said. Their are other variables. With that said. I wasn't directing it toward you. I didn't even see your post until just now. We must have posted at the same time! I agree with what your saying though! If you go with a projector and want to see a great image during the day get something with 2000 lumens or brighter. If it has a special day mode that's even better. Panasonic has a light harmonizer mode which greatly improves quality when light tries to wash out your screen.

As far as the projector vrs tv goes... 1080p is 1080p. You buy a low native resolution tv or projector and it's going to look worse... if you notice those things. You plug a HDMI cable into a high resolution projector on a decent screen and you won't be able to tell a difference. unless you bought a cheap tv to compare it to.
