OP, your fine. Your graphics card will work really well with Valve games. Games like Far Cry 2 will also run on high settings. Later on you may want to overclock your quad core and invest into a high end graphics card, not for like another year though.Gamerkatthanks for the advice.
Valve seems to have realized that having high end graphics does not mean the game is going to be good. Someone in that company got a clue and figured out that strong art direction and engaging gameplay will win out over that latest visual bells and whistles.
One of the things I've always wondered is, if Valve is such a hot company how come no one seems to be adopting there successful ideas? With Left 4 Dead they seem to have built a game that looks good and plays well (hopefully) and will run on your Dad's computer.High hardware costs are one of the biggest reasons people leave the PC for the console. What Vavle seems to have done should have been a no brainer for the entire industry.

To answer your question its probably a move by Valve to increase their potential player base.
