I'm wondering if anyone else ever gets framerate reports from fraps that seem way off? I glanced at it a couple times while taking screenshots playing Crysis earlier, and it said 12 fps. Now, I do have some visual mods on there, and I'm running it at settings a bit higher than I probably should with my system, so I know it's running at a lower framerate than most people would be comfortable with, but there's no way it's actually that low. 25-ish, maybe, dipping to 20, with a lot of action, I'd believe. But it was showing 12 when I was just staring at a wall. Anyone else feel like FRAPS is off sometimes? Or is 12 frames per second actually a lot smoother than I think it is?:P

It usually shows them right for me, but it doesn't seens to capture drops due to micro-stutters.

You could try in Crysis to go to the console and type r_displayinfo = 1 and see if it's correct.

You don't notice the lower frame rate when you are near something.

Well It was also showing 12 fps when I was running around. And, again, it's probably running a bit slow, but no way it's that low.

Try running Fraps with the intro cinematic of The Witcher 1. It showed over 500 fps for me. See if you get a matching framerate.

Hmm. Don't have that one. I'll try running it with some older games that I know run smoothly, and see what it says.

right-click on your Crysis launch icon, select Properties, and one blank space after the last character in the Target box, add your command with a plus sign in front of it http://www.tweakguides.com/Crysis_8.html

Just use "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin32\Crysis.exe" +r_DisplayInfo 1

Should show you FPS. if FRAPS and in game fps are the same then you have your answer. I don't think FRAPS has ever reported incorrect framerates for me.

I don't really understand the point of an fps counter. I notice whenever the framerate drops in a game and I generally lower the settings when something like that happens.

Yeah, I really don't care what my exact framerate is, so long as the game runs smooth enough that I can play it. I just got really confused when Fraps told me Crysis was running at 12 fps. If that's accurate, then 12 fps isn't anywhere near as choppy as I would expected it to be.

Whenever a video is played in game, or you are stuck at a loading screen, your counter will fly up high, and it will differ depending on spec of the pc, the OS and the state of that installation. Soooooo I find it hard to do even if you had same game, and same pc... If that comment included bits of sarcasm ignore all this. lol. What you can do is what some other ppl has been saying. On either game that you have, enable fps counter in-game, and verify that if it somewhat matches fraps and how close it is. Try doing it on several games if you can. On a second thought, it, being a software developed for the sole purpose of telling you the fps, it better be damn close to the real thing. at least it started like that, with video and stuff added-on on later.

Edit: reading on your last post. Note this, Crysis is one great game on making it look fluid even with 18 fps, I think, or i read somewhere that it has to do with the way it mimicks the blur that we have in cinemas, meaning, every frame has a trace of the last one.

When compared to MSI afterburner, FRAPS isn't accurate. Afterburner reports much lower framerates when the game stutters or dips. Fraps kinda just hangs at a higher number. I don't use FRAPs any more when I want to find out the fps.

How can you possibly play a first person shooter at 12 frame per second??? That would be horrible, I just wouldn't bother playing it at that point. Have you ever tried playing games with a smooth frame-rate?

12 FPS is not playable
