I plan on just buying the ps3 version then connecting my steam account with my PSN account to get my "free" PC copy,

How about you guys? I recommend getting the ps3 version you can get a $20 gift card via amazon.

Getting the PS3 version.

Can't think of a good enough reason not to really. £5 or £10 extra for two copies of the game sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

I'll probably just get it off steam. I could see people buying the PS3 version, then downloading the PC version, then reselling the PS3 copy.

You will have to register the PS3 version with your Steam account before you are allowed to download the PC version, so I don't think reselling will be possible.

can't u register ur ps3 version(i'm guessing via code voucher of some sort like EA pass), download the pc version then sell it?

i mean it's not like you have to insert ur ps3 version of the game to your disk drive on your pc to play the game.

Since the PS3 version will have Steamworks, I'm guessing the way that it'll work is that you will directly create a (or log into your) Steam account from your PS3 when you first install the game. Then, much like buying any game on Steam on your PC, the PS3 version of the game will be registered and forever tied to your account (perhaps via a CD key, or some kind of unique code encrypted on each disc), and if you log into Steam on your PC it'll be there waiting for you to download.

Or perhaps there'll be some way of doing it on your PC as well. But it will probably still involve permanently registering your PS3 disc with your Steam account somehow.

I'm just guessing this is what will happen. Nothing has been confirmed as to how it will actually work... but come on. Valve aren't idiots. They have almost certainly thought that people might buy the PS3 version for the free PC version, and then sell it on. They have almost certainly prepared for it and come up with a way of preventing that from happening.

It isn't, you activate the game on steam and the code will be unusable to anyone, even if they play on a PS3.

How does it work exactly? You buy a PS3 copy, you activate it on steam...then what happens if you sell your PS3 copy?

It's useless.

How does it work exactly? You buy a PS3 copy, you activate it on steam...then what happens if you sell your PS3 copy?

The Ps3 version of the game works EXACTLY like any other PC Steamworks game, except added that you ALSO need the disc in to play because the Ps3 can't run games directly from the hard drive without a disc(afaik). To play the PS3 version, You are required to log in to your steam account from your PS3 through Portal 2 to register the game online and tie your PSN account to it to even start playing it and you will be required to login in from that steam account everytime to play Portal 2, or at least have the login credentials svaed on said PS3. It is then added to your steam account, hence the option to download it on your Pc by connecting to your steam account again on your PC and the game will be on the list of games you own and ready for download. If you don't have a code or if it's already used in another account then the already-activated code of the PS3 disc is next to useless.

It isn't what people originally thought it would be, like having an "additional" code packaged on every Ps3 copy ready to be activated on your PC then have the Ps3 copy resold. It is just ONE code that you use to play on two platform, just like how you can buy a steamplay game through Steam and play the game on both your Mac and Pc, except, unlike the Mac/Pc crossplatform feature, this time the whole Steam client isn't available on the Ps3, it is just included on the game itself. So alternatively I can buy the PC version of Portal 2 through steam then buy a Portal 2 PS3 disk and be able to play it because I already have the game on my account, but that is well just stupid.

He's not lost at all.

You won't be able to resell your Portal 2 disc, because you'll have to register your PS3 version with your Steam account somehow. As with any game you buy through Steam on your PC, your game will be forever tied to your account, and won't be useable by any other Steam account. With Portal 2 on the PS3 using Steamworks, you will almost certainly need to log into some kind of rudimentary Steam-like interface through your PS3 to tie your Portal 2 disc to your account somehow before you can play the game. So anyone else putting the disc in their PS3 won't be able to play, because it will already be linked to your account.

Then, once the game is registered with your Steam account, you can download the PC version if you wish.

Do people really think Valve haven't thought of this happening? Like I said, they aren't idiots.

So it's DRM....on consoles. Nice!

Serves console gamers right for being such pir....used game buyers..

I'm still getting the PS3 version, as i said can't hurt to have two versions of a game.

Steam, twice (one for my son so we can play coop). Do not own a PS3 and that would be pretty prohibitive to buy one for this deal. I find it curious though how many of you people's first thought is how can I gain the system with this generous offer from Valve.

Same here. I considered this very nice option, but I also don't want to boost console sales as I see myself mainly as a PC game supporter.

I'm going to get it on pc because I don't have a ps3. I don't think that retailers will let you sell the ps3 copy if you already linked it to you psn account, so I wouldn't try to buy it then sell it and only use the pc version/
