I right now have a Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 overclocked to 3.0ghz paired with 4 gigs of A-Data DDR 800 ram and a XFX 4890 1gb graphic card.

How bad is this bottleneck for my graphic processor? I feel that the CPU is really limiting the potential performance of my graphic card. Any words of wisdom? I am thinknig of upgrading my CPU and PSU to match the needs of my graphic card. I have only a 520 watt power supply now. I want to up that to 750 watts and replace the CPU with a Q6600.

Any thoughts?

To be honest, at the moment your e6600 should handle any game thrown at it fairly well. In the future(when games get more demanding) you will definitely want to step up to something a little better.

Yeah you should be fine with that CPU and GPU and you have plenty of RAM. Unless you are trying to run at rez higher than 1920x1200 you shouldn't have any problems with that setup for at least 6 months or so.

Edit: Missed the PSU part, depending on the brand, 520 should be fine for single GPU. I would only upgrade it if its a) a crappy off brand that may fail, or b) you decide to SLI/Crossfire.

Whats the power consumption of a Q6600? Could I get away with just upgrading the processor?

I'm running a eVGA 260 that needs two 12v rails and a Phenom 1 Black Edition and have had zero problems on 550w. Unless you are upgrading the GPU to something that requires 18amps across the 12v rail then I think you will be fine on 520.

Just to add to this, my gf's PC is running a Q6600 @ 3.2 with a 8800GTS 512 also. Her PC at idle pulls 145 watts from the wall. Playing Crysis, it pulls 184w. Running Prime95 and Rthdribl at the same time only pulls 310w.

If I somehow get ahold of one of those, I could measure how much power my computer demands under a load?

Yes you could. I have one, but for some reason it doesn't let my PC pull more than 300 watts when using it, so my PC just crashes. :(

Really, wow. I have had mine up to 495w on my PC. I even hooked up the AC and vacuum, both were in the 1000w range. Maybe you have a defective unit?

I think your power supply is limited you the most. The processor is pretty good. I would upgrade PSU first and see if it makes a difference.
