How best to partition Hard disk with two os?

How best to partition Hard disk with two os for maximum performance and speed? How many partitions and Prog for partition?


I want to install on disc WD6401AALS:


Windows 7 , games for windows 7
Windows xp, games for windows xp
Films, music, games cds


in which sections?

Why dont you just run games on Windows 7 in 'XP compatibility mode'?

I think it is more convenient to partition, particularly because of the defrag

Its not.

What you could do is have 3 partitions: One with XP, one with Windows 7, and one thats "shared" between the two. If you're only going to put in Windows and essential apps, then about 40 GB per OS should be fine. 60 GB to play it safe, and the rest to the shared partition.

But frankly, its not worth doing. Just stick to to Windows 7.
