I picked up Sins and its expansion in the hopes of getting into a critically acclaimed RTS (I love RTS' with base building and empire management), but holy hell, this game is SLOW. Most of the time im sitting around waiting for things to happen, where it should be the other way around! How do I get into this game??

It's not the kind of game, it's slow, you will have to take your time with it, you can spend up to an entire day on small-medium maps, or days on large maps. If you really can't stand it then give up, but if you're really interested in the game then be patient and make ships, then make some more, try to expand further and make some more, and so on till you conquer everything. The only fast full of action thing that you'll see in this game, the huge battles that are pretty rare.

I tried the first one and I just couldn't get into it. By design, it should be a really good RTS. It has the gathering, building, decisions, and fighting like any other game. Although, for some reason, it also fails to suck me in. I just don't feel like its a RTS. I'm not sure why.

It's rather good if you play on smaller maps. It's slow the first hour or so, then it jumps ahead to lightning quick once the actual battles start. Try playing on a higher difficulty to add tension to the mix. In other news, I had the same problem with Galactic Civ 2; I heard it was amazing, played it for a couple hours, and it was ungodly boring. Is there an RTS 4X game that is good?

it's takes about the same time to build strong army in SupCom :D it's worth it, at the end you can build the giant multi galaxy cannon which blasts all the way from long distances

The sims is NOT an RTS. Yes its real time and there is some strategy to it. But it's a freaking life simulator, no RTS.

No one in this topic has mentioned "The Sims", the TC is talking about "S I N S" or "Sins of a Solar Empire" to give it the full title. Now Sins of a Solar Empire is a real time strategy game.

I am having the same problem as the TC I just can't get into this game, I will persevere at it but I guess I just have to chalk it down to it not being "my kind of game". Not too bummed out about it though it was only a couple of quid and they often say "nothing ventured, nothing gained".

Have you tried increasing game speed via the fast-forward button? That helps me when I'm in the early stages of the game

I love it so far but it's pretty damn hard, even on easy mode. I'll be fine about an hour into a round, conquering planets all over the map, when suddenly a gigantic enemy fleet 5 times bigger than mine starts butt-raping my planets one by one. Still, it's pretty fun to watch yourself get owned in cinematic mode.

"How can I get into sins?" Well, you can steal your neighbour's lawn-mower for a start. The next thing would be to sabotage his satellite-dish. (Oh, come on. I'm not allowed to make ONE joke about the thread title?) On Topic - I think this link might help you a bit. http://sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com/wiki/Tips_%26_Tricks
