So I was just thinking the other day, about the fun I had with WoW when it was first released. I had a Human Warrior, and I played as much as I could, and had tons of fun. I played it for a year then quit due to new game releases and stuff like that...I've decided to go 'back' to WoW a couple of times, but it was never very fun, and it wasnt the same as the first play through.

But then a little thing called, The Burning Crusade came along. I resubscribed and made a Blood Elf Paladin. I couldnt, and still cant, think of the reason I kept playing, but it was similar to the original playthrough. I got to 70 but then stopped, since I could never get keyed for Karazhan and such (If you've ever gotten a character to 70 on WoW you'd know what I'm talking about :( ) I went back again recently and created another Human Warrior but quit sometime around level 26. It was fun, but I felt like there were better things to play. Now I'm probably not going to play WoW again anytime soon, since I'm really excited for Mass Effect, COD4, and other releases in November that I dont feel like naming right now.

But I need to know how I can have fun with it again. I think I've just never been to confident with my characters. With my Blood Elf all I heard from the people on horde was either how much they hated Paladins or how much they hated blood elves, and making fun of the Blood Elves' appearance, and how the males looked like women. And with my recent Human Warrior I wasnt so sure I wanted to be on Alliance.

I've accepted the fact that there will always be, well, how can I say this without getting this thread locked...Unsavory people, on the servers, on both Horde and Alliance. On Alliance it was always the kids and teenagers causing the trouble. On Horde the people were either too serious about the game or were simply sour adults.

Now I want to get this kind of enjoyment out of WoW again. WoW is a great game, regardless of what people say, and I want to play it again sometimes soon. But, thats why I'm posting. I need some tips on how to do this right.

1.) What race should I be? Preferably something that people wouldnt make fun of, and with a cool mount and such.

2.) What class should I be? I prefer something like a Warrior due to the toughness and melee combat, but I'm up for new things. I might try out a Rogue to see what plain out DPSing is like, but I like to feel a bit more useful. I understand DPS is vital to any good group, but I feel kind of uncapabable when I cant hold the enemies well or help my teammates out.

3.) Alliance or Horde? I understand raiding on Horde would probably be easier due to somewhat more mature players, but since I prefer Battlegrounds over raiding a lot of the time, either might be fitting, but that also goes back to the race question.

I'll post again if I have any more questions.

i'm in exactly the same boat you're in. Personally, i'm waiting my school year to get back to the game. You should just try out each class, as each one is unique. Paladins are SUPRISINGLY fun to play, you never die; although you have to sacrifice DPS.

he has, most of us do. It DOES get repetitive, however, once you play WoW to the max level...there's no going back to any other MMO's.

I'm not addicted like some people thing WoW players are, its just a lot of fun. None of the other MMO's out right now really interest me as much as WoW. I really love all of the lore, the huge Warcraft universe, and finding all of the little secrets of the story, and there are plenty of them, believe me. Hmm, maybe a new theme for a different character: A Rogue who has sworn to find all of the secrets in the world, I'll have to elaborate on it more of course...

you feel they kind of ruined the lore with the introduction of the draenae to the game?

Why would introduction of Draneai ruin the lore? Maybe, since they were a dominant species on Outland, they answered all of the questions about the mysteries of Outland, meaning Blizzard created that lore, but didnt really give us lore seekers a chance to find stuff like that out piece by piece. But tell me what you mean.

Threads like this lead me to believe all other games on earth were promptly stolen and destroyed. I played WoW and thought It was rather crap. Try some other games, who knows, you might actually enjoy them.

I raid with my guild a few times a week and I have fun doing that. I don't play it everyday, but it is a big priority in my life somewhat. I even have my work schedule work around my raiding schedule.

I don't think I would still be playing WoW if it wasn't for my friends/guildies.

Didn't bother reading your whole post but the truth of the matter is that WoW is slipping a little. I'd recommend for all of the nexgen MMO's to come out and pickup whichever one looks interesting to you.

Literally the exact same boat as you, except I played through from Launch to Burning Crusade, leveled my Druid up to 70, ran Kara 20+ times, after that? Just got burned out having to gear up by doing all of the Faction Grinds and whatnot.

I've found I am having a LOT of fun playing a Different Class, a Rogue. I'd recommend leveling all the classes you haven't played to about 15 and see if you just had a TON of fun with a certain class, for me that was the Rogue and now I'm enjoying leveling him up, even though I've been through this part of the game before I'm enjoying it a lot.

Most people who lose thier interest in WoW is at lvl 70 when they must farm all the rep and run those lvl 70 5man instances. Actually yes that is the most repetitive and fustrating because there arent always the best groups to run with. But if you get past that phase, lets say you get to a good raiding guild because you know your class and got the best preraiding items (craftable epic items), then it gets a bit more fun, you start running Karazhan, if you get Karazhan cleared, starting to run TK and SSC slowly, new bosses and content, completing raid quests etc. It gets quite fun.

WoW is like 3 phases:

1st phase = "You level to 70", seeing all the WoW content first time, is fun phase.(duration of this phase depends how much you play)

2nd phase = "You dinged to lvl 70" now and start farming 5man instances and all that rep needed to craft epic items for 3rd phase. (fun at start but ends up to be the most boring and fustrating part of the game)

3rd phase = "You have best preraiding gear (craftable epic items and rep items, Heroic badge items etc.), and join a raiding guild to start raiding all the highend content of the game wich is pretty big and fun. (Fun phase again, specially if you have a good mature and smart guild to progress good in raiding, the game might end up be more fun than you played the first time :))

This is pve part mostly. I myself do pve and pvp both, you know its fun to overgear people in battlegrounds with your BT gear. :)

I have 4 different class chars wich are 70 and all other remaining classes 30+, I would not play this game so long if I would been played with one class all this time.

I got 70 chars + a lot lower chars at both alliance and horde side, I personally prefer horde more than alliance.

I was always a big brute-ish warrior/melee lover, myself, but for the hell of it I decided to go on a whim and try a gnome warlock. To my surprise I have a blast with him! The summons, the spells, all fun to play! Try something way off kilter to what you're used to and you may just like it!

Grab every single piece of WoW material you have and put it in a microwave for 20 minutes. Grab a beer and some popcorn, pop on some UV Oakleys, sit back in a lazy boy recliner andenjoy having fun with WoW again.

Well, during my last period of WoW, I came to the conclusion that:

A. The game itself is lame and boring, there's lots of stuff out there that's a million times better.
B. The "social" aspect is overrated, and for people with no lives. If you think you'rehaving fun with your "friends" in WoW, try grabbing a couple of beers and a horribly lame cliche horror movie with them, It'll be way more

Edit:
The most fun I ever had with WoW was probably during townraids, which AFAIKare almost non existant nowadays.

On the draenei: The Warcraft 2 manual had this awesome backstory about both Mediev (or however you spell that) and the orcs.

In this story, the orcs destroyed every last Draenei on their planet, then started killing each other because they had no one else to turn on, and so the Dark Portal was a happy happy relief for them.
And in this story, Mediev is also some powerhungry maniac possesed by demons.

So when I first heard about Mediev going "OMG I am so sorry that I almost destroyed your entire planet but I'm a good boy now, can't we just hug and make up?" in Warcraft 3 made me go "bleh".
And then when the Draenei came up in FT, I was like "so you just gave everything you wrote beforeWarcraft 3the finger? Way to go, Blizzard."
I used to love the Warcraft lore, before the hippy "let's all work together and save the world." politically correct mumbling.
I liked it more when the orcs were only interested in brutally murdering every last human there was.

I'm actually not currently playing WoW, and none of the 'you should just quit WoW' posts are very helpful...unless you suggest other games or have any sort of convincing reasoning, it wont help.

I was in the same boat as you for a long time. I loved the game, was addicted for a while you might say. I quit the game 3 times I believe. I havent played WoW for months. I'm quite happy. I realized I was paying 15 dollars of my hard earned money every month for a game that was - quite frankly boring. It consisted in doing the same thing over and over again, never getting anywhere.

Do what I did. Find better games. Give up WoW like I did. I'm happier. Currently playing

Dawn of war: Dark crusade
The Witcher
World in Conflict
Steam games and The Orange Box
Command and conquer 3
Civilization 4: Beyond the sword

Currently waiting for:
Assassins Creed
Mass effect
Spore
Crysis

I had 3 lvl 70's, all with kara gear and one with near full season 2 arena gear before I quit...I have quit and come back to the game numerous times.

End game is really boring and repetitive (especially if your guild is very good), but going back and leveling a character again and taking your time is just as fun (I was a power leveler, so I didnt get to enjoy the actual story). Play something you may not like at first (a druid is often dispised), but it will grow on you. I loved playing my 70 druid because if played right, it can be versatile in so many ways.

...and now you're making me want to go back to the game =(

I went to 60 with my Dwarf Pally first run through. Was a good time, but hated not having any DPS at all - unless of course I was in the 5% super-duper hardcore guild. :(

*Note, had alot of fun with pally in BG - being hard to kill is great

Then started rogue, and I had an absolute blast in pvp - if you're semi-good you'll love the versatility that a rogue has. The instant slaying, etc. is great. Levelling with rogue is mind-bendingly easy as well.

Quit before BC, never came back though. Played since UO days worth of MMO's and didn't like where WoW was heading -

i.e. rep grinds, massive time investments, pvp-grinds over skill etc.

I understand they do all they can to make the game fun for as many as possible, don't take my gripes as a slam on WoW though - I think it was the perfect iteration of all MMO's before and after thus far.

I just prefer the casual fun of other games, versus the time investment of WoW.

Here is my advice:

give the game a looooong break. Like at least three months. Two summers ago I decided that I wanted to work more, drink more, and go to the beach more so I cancelled my WoW account and partied the whole summer.

When school started again, I went back to WoW. It is a great stress reliever, and since I was so busy I could only squeeze in like two hours a day. I enjoyed it a lot more when I actually felt like I deserved to play, as opposed to playing like four hours a day which is just wasteful and lazy.

Also, make a horder character. If you havent been shaman yet, make a troll shaman or something. I had a melee enhancement shaman til about 58, then I went elemental and they rock! So much fun, very diverse. And horde is just, well, Idunno it just seems better. It takes a certain type of person to be the "bad" guys, and they have more manners I guess. I like alliance, but after wandering around Elwynn Forest it was like "stfu you little kids!"

Myrkan

Sorry, didnt read the whole post.

1. Troll...they have Jamaican accents, practice voodoo, theyre like eight feet tall, and they ride raptors. Whats not to like!?!

2. Shaman or hunter. Hunter is cool, but shaman is my main and he is so much fun. They get so many great skills and when you reach end game, you can tailor him into any role, dps caster, dps melee, or healer, depending on what your guild needs.

3. Horde. Im not stereotyping, just expressing my experience: horde was infinitely more polite and helpful than anything. The real issue, however, is finding a good guild. Not one obsessed with raiding, but maybe one that does raids on Friday and Saturday and likes to socialize.

Hmm, I've never really thought of being a troll, but I'll think about it and maybe try it out when and if I decide to go back again. Anyway, thanks for all the help so far guys, I'll check back again soon for more responses.

You should switch to a high population server first of all. Then you never have to worry about getting a group together. then you should buy the glider program and bot you a character from each class all the way to 70 and then the fun starts.

If your not playing wow, try some other games. If you have played for awile, its most likely that you have ignored other PC games. I quit wow, before BC came out, mostly due to being burned out on the constant raid grind, and the game ceased to be fun.

grab a bunch of demos, and see what you like. Right now the MMo market is pathetic and most likely to remain that way for some time.

Medivh is a high popular server. Getting a group isnt all that difficult, but people are always quitting groups for no reason or they play poorly. About the "Glider" program: No.

I'd rather not "Bot" my way to 70,I had a couple of friends (or at least they were in my friends list) that did that and whenever I tried to contact them, there was never any response, and every day I logged on he gained another level on his character. And besides, isnt that program sort of restricted? I doubt using that would not result in a ban, its not like a plugin or interface mod.

I'm not sure how you can have fun with WOW again... its such a depressing grind knowing each time you get that nice gear, they'll release an expansion or nerf your class making you cry.

I tried the BC expansion, and couldn't believe how much work it was going to be to update my gear for lvl 70... so when I actually did hit 70 I just decided time would be better spent elsewhere.

Just forget WOW, Age of Conan comes out next year, it'll be fresh to get into as long as its technically perfect like WOW, and not glitchy like NCsoft games.

I know all about the "Boring Grind" but havent experience it much. I did feel that sinking feeling when trying to get keyed for raids, and I think its kind of sad that Blizzard decided to draw out players play time with that crap. Now when I say I havent experienced that much, I mean I actually enjoy questing, going to BG's in-between, maybe running a couple dungeons with friends. I dont obsess with gear and blah blah blah. I just try to have a good time with it.

See, I played the game maybe 3'ish hours a day, usually a bit lower than 3, and maybe 4 hours at the most on days off. I had a better time, I think, that I would have if I just became a loser and grinded all day.

So anyway, I love BG's. As a Paladin I remember getting ambushed by roguesat70and just hearing plinking sounds as they tried to dent my armor. It was pretty cool to pretty much never die from them and just torture them with a long long kill due to super low defense paladin DPS. I LOVED AV, I loved the idea of crusading up a mountain and killing the enemy leader, all the while defending the forts and picking off the shadowmelding nights elves and such.

[QUOTE="Myrkan"]

I understand exactly what your feeling, because i got to a high lvl char in wow then lost interest, and didnt have as much time to play.

I had a night elf hunter, and i enjoy the play style, u know in the backround doing dps, but seeing hat your play style is to be more of an important roll, i would recomend being a drenei shamman, because thay can help a group in almost all aspects of the game. And by the way i would recomend going alliance because i have friends with high lvl horde characters and they dont enjoy the game as much becausetheyaremore into groups and dungeons, and the horde's majority of charactersare into pvp. So your faction realy just depends on your play style.

If your up for trying out the healing roll, i would recomend going with a preist, preferabley shaddow with a few holy specs. The thing people dont realize is shadow preists heal almost just as well as holy preists, holy preists just have a few more healing tricks up there sleaves.

So whichever way you go, and how it turns out i know how you feel with the whole maxing out thing. I currently am about to buy Hellgate London. I've just finished with the demo and am very satisfied with the general way the games going (the demo's graphics and framerate wasnt that great but i know that the actual game is alot better), and if things dont go well with WoW, ring me up on Hellgate =].

I quit WOW in probably only the end of May
simple reason because Ive seen it just completely take people's lives
I literally thought there was tonnes better things to do then just sit there and grind whatever came about just to "level"
it go really boring
I was only level 34 rouge

My boyfriend still plays it though
Hes a level 70 Nightelf Druid
and he is the main reason why i will never go back to that game
it is his life and it is realy sad to watch him raid evey Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday nights for 6 hours
really my suggestion is to give it up
there are great games coming out on the PC now
look them up, it should help you get it off it

Personally, I think it's virtually impossible to make WoW fun again after you've hit the level cap and experienced raiding and PvP; once you've done them, it's hard to go back to anything else. But once you've done them, you also realize how much time they take and how ridiculously life-ruining the game can be.

I'd say give it up, move on, and find something more constructive to create and develop than a character in an MMORPG.

here's how to have fun with WoW: Save all the files you have on your computer that have anything to do with WoW on a CD. Now put the CD in the toilet, throw a match in there and flush. I do believe WoW is garbage. AND BLIZZARD SHOULD LEARN HOW TO MAKE AN MMO WHERE YOU ACTUALLY SEE OTHER PLAYERS, THEY'RE NOT ALL SCATTERED IN THE REALMS OF SHATIAUS OR GAtyRBAhGE.

WoW gets great when you a high lvl and get deep into the game. HoweverI quit once I hit Marshal on my warrior (good times man) due to I wasnt interested in BC at all but anyway it's a great game and my advice to you is give it a short break and see what happens, real life is always important over any game not just WoW.

Edit: O yea for the alliance! Only warrior to self-raid on Orgimmar.
