IntelĀ® Core i7 2820QM 2.3GHz (3.4GHz w/Turbo Boost, 8MB Cache)

3.0GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M using NVIDIA Optimus technology

750GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s

8GB 1600Mhz RAM

14.0" High Def+ (900p/1600x900) with WLED backlight

So can this laptop game? How well on modern games, and games in general? Crysis 2, Bulletstorm, Company of Heroes, Fear, CS, how about games coming out this summer/fall, is there a BIG jump expected or can I expect to game for a solid 2-4 years?

Its ok, but 3GB on that GPU is useless, unless its for GTA 4.

its GOOD for a laptop, thats all that can be said really, laptops don't compare to desktops because of obvious limitations and the one that you posted is probably one of the best you can buy.

As has been stated, that there is pretty much as good as it gets for Laptops. All the games that you stated will run perfectly fine at max settings.

Okay, first of all, I'm pretty sure you already knew or kinda knew this laptop is a beast just from the price (whatever the price may be). This sounds like you're just bragging about this super awesome laptop you're going to get.

I am assuming you're bragging because if you were actually concerned, you would be asking "am I getting my bang for my buck on this laptop" instead of an obvious question like "urr, uhhh, can this thing even play games?"

you will be able to play games on medium some settings on high and get decent frames at your native resolution. AA will be turned off, and any other demanding feature will also have to be turned off like reflections and HBAO. This laptop will do you good for starcraft 2 though :D I suggest getting a desktop, and waiting for the AMD llano apu laptops to be released in the coming month and getting one of those. That laptop will have a really good video card will be able to crossfire with another similar discrete card and won't cost you an arm and a leg.

You'd be able to run most current games at medium-very high (depending on resolution) settings with that. However, 4 years is pushing it in my opinion. You'd probably be playing new games at low by then.

Also, can I ask what laptop this is?

The GT555m is the worst part and actually you will NOT be playing games on max settings. However, its not a crappy card, you should just be informed that its not going to be one of the best, its about a midteir mobile GPU with only 144shaders and clocked at 590mhz core. Being an alienware, you may get a good OC on it, and that can really help, but in the end, there are far far beter mobile cards out there. For more info: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-555M.41933.0.html Now for the CPU, if you are buying this strictly for gaming, its an overkill as you'll still be stuck with a midteir gpu. I'd suggest dropping it down to a 2630qm so you can save some money and put that towards a SSD or something, in which you'll see much more improvement while adding to your battery life. If you plan to do video rendering and other CPU non-gaming intensive stuff, then by all means, keep the 2820qm, it will certainly pack a punch for video rendering. Lastly, everything else seems good, though I'd certainly consider dropping the cpu down for an SSD. If its a hatachi 750gb hdd, then you'd prob want to stay away anyways. It runs hot, pretty darn loud, and seems to have a high failure rate in reviews.(i do have one personally since it came stock in my lappy, but i hate it, its slower then older hard drives that came out 3-4yrs ago.) Good luck, and remember to google NoteBookReview forums, all the info you need for laptop buying is there and will immensely help with you're decision.

Well, I see this thread is almost a year old... So, I got angry with my MacBook Pro a couple of weeks ago and threw it across the room. It survived the fight with a spiderweb cracked screen, the inability to close itself, and a CD ROM drive that doesn't recognize CDs. Needless to say, I am in the market for a new laptop. I don't have a lot of cash to blow on the "top of line" laptop, but I don't want junk either. So, I went to Dell and built this for less than $2500. I know crap about computer components. I was hoping y'all can confirm or deny if this computer will suit my needs. I'm not much of a PC gamer, but I would like to be able to play Starcraft 2, some WoW, and other comparative games at max or near max. I mainly use the computer to surf the internet, watch porn, play online poker, and music editing. Other reviews said that this processor was overkill with the equipped video card. Will this processor be enough for Ableton Live 8, Logic Studio, and/or other DAWs? I figured the RAM would play a big factor in their performance, as well, so I picked the biggest Dell offered. Is this a well-rounded laptop?

Well for 14in it's good. I'd prefer my np8130 over it still. 560m kills the 555 and I will upgrade to the 7970m later
