Well ; the title says it all .... I got my HD7950 3GB three days ago and now im reading articles and reviews that says HD7870 is very close to the HD7950 even it can beat it on some resolutions ... is that true ? so the cost difference is wasted ?

I would think that is maybe an OC'd 7870 vs stock 7950, but in turn you can maybe oc yours to near 7970 performance Also this could be at 1080p resolution were the 2 cards will give similar results, however if you upped this say to 3 monitors the 7870 will die more or less.

No, the 7950 is head and shoulders above the 7870.

Ok I can say now that the if you got the 7870 GHz edition you will also need to overclock it to reach near a stock 7950 not to forget that the 7950 got 3GB not 2GB like 7870 ... now if you overclocked the 7950 you might reach close to the 7970 level like5SI-GonePostalsaid

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=550 Please go there, it is a great comparison site for GPU's as it actually gives fps values for different games. Generally they are very close in performance.
