PC gamers are more picky. I don't think I've ever given a game a 10 either. I mean a 10's perfect, certainly there's some flaw somewhere.techpunk
I'll third that opinion in agreement as well.

Giving a five-star rating to something definitely doesn't mean it's perfect. What is the point of having a ten in the rating if it's never used? That would mean 9.5 is actually the highest score and that's why GS started giving away tens again. But the real question here is, what does it matter?
[QUOTE="jtparlo"]true, now that i think about it no game deserves a 10Baranga
Then no student deserves it (or an A, whatever).
An A does not = 10 (100%)Somewhere down the line, reviewers are missing the whole point of a game... and the point of a game is to have fun. Dawn of War 2 had it by the buketload, it's campaign was so incredible but it still got average reviews? A pure gamer's opinion, uncorrupted by hype and money, means it's the best opinion around. I'd take one gamer's opinion on Dawn of War 2 being a fantastic game over 20 hired reviews saying it's 'OK' any day.Solidus171well everyone has different opinions, i love some games that were rated like 6 and i hate some games that were rated above 9, but i usually on this site go by the user rating over the gamespot rating
Ok, what Gamespot says about the 10. ;)
10.0: PrimeThis exceedingly rare score refers to a game that is as perfect as a game can aspire to be at its time of release. Obviously, the constantly changing standards for technology and gameplay will probably make this game obsolete some day, but at its time of release, a game earning this score could not have been improved upon in any meaningful way.
It's all subjective. Some people give out 10's like crazy. I'm stingy with 'em. I don't think I've ever given a movie a 10 either. A woman as a 10? Please. She has a flaw. :P
Wait for Empire. That'll get a 10 if the reviewers have any common sense and aren't the corrupted, console-gaming reviewers they appear to be...bangell99IGN gave it a 9.5, which is the highest i've ever seen them give...but I havne't seen a lot of their reviews. The Total War series is likely the best strategy series ever, but I can see why it didn't earn a 10 in previous iterations. And BTW, they all ARE corrupted by consoles.

Some reviewers hold a 10 as a perfect (OXM has 11 has perfect so it confuses the hell out of people who say "THIS GAME GOT A 10 OUT OF 10" when it is 10 out of 11). If a reviewer doesn't hold 10 as a perfect then it isn't. But a 10 CAN mean perfect, BUT it doesn't HAVE to. To me i think it should because no game will ever be perfect and therefore should never get it. Also i think Gamespot sucks because if something doesn't hurt a games score then it shouldn't be mentioned in the con list, but just in the review. Look at the Madden 08 or something review for 360 to PS3... It bothers me to say that it is a con, but the score is the same because it doesn't make a big difference. In that case it shouldn't be a fu***** con!!!

As much as I agree with you, I must ask if you have read any of the reviews of 10.0 games. Although they got "Perfect" scores, they metions flaws, so technically, no game has ever gotten a perfect 10.0, more like a 9.9 or 9.8.
Since there are grades above A (See A+ or A++ which I have seen people get) I doubt that an A would be considered 100% anywhere. If it is then I highly doubt an A would be given.Well, where I live it's different.

To get widespread 10s games need massive amounts of hype behind them, and even that doesn't always guarantee a perfect score. GTAIV got a 10 largely on hype that glossed over its flaws, and gushing praise over ruled common sense. For PC games one of the main problems stopping games getting a 10 is technical problems. How many games have you played in the last year that hasn't had technical problems for you? Online activation, DRM, install limits, patches, driver updates, hotfixes etc. - it is now as much a part of PC gaming as actually playing the games, and certainly detracts from the fun. PC games are also marked on a different standard from console games. Where a console game will get praised for its wonderful graphics, the same standard on a PC would get mocked for looking awful. A PC game has to look stunning on a massive resolution to please the graphics nuts, but then instantly puts off people that want deeper gaming thinking you can't have stunning graphics AND great gameplay in the same package. It's almost as if everyone is waiting to pick a part of the game for criticism rather than enjoying what it isAvenger1324
Thats Very true. about 95% of people that look at games look at one specific peice and then judge it that way. While its a known fact that a console can only have a certain graphic performance. To create a game it runs through a computer meaning the computer has such a higher expectation for graphics automatically. Because you always expect that the master is better then the student per say. If we could get the critics to rate the game without having a bias for graphics or deep gameplay you would definately have some titles that would be 10. The day a PC game gets a 10 is when People who think graphics are what make a game and people who think good gameplay make a good game settle on a agreement somewhere in the middle.
Well I must say PC Gaming has alot to live up to due to such a past of magnificent games that penetrated the platform very efficiently and thoroughly revolutionizing the PC Platform. In addition PC Gaming lacks PR to build overall excitement for a game launch rather then the consoles which does this quite well. At the core the strongest strength of PC Gaming is the essence of the community experience.
We need to fix problems like getting Display Drivers, Sound Drivers, Updates and much more to PC users to make everybody lives alot easier and I point to Microsoft about this due to there seems to be absolute no improvements in the OS to solute these issues.
There's simply no argument that PC is indeed the better platform. Over the years PC Gaming has always been at the forefront of Image Base Rendering(Graphics) and technical achievement. The participation from users of Mods, Dedicated servers and User base levels is simply astounding. PC Gaming is marvelous!
What i think is even more crazy is that many ppl start thinking that games that score a 7.0 - 8.0 are utter trash. The bar is set too high and very decent fun games that get nice scores of 6's and 7's and some 8's are getting totally overlooked.Tyson8earzzWord.. And alot of it has to do with bugs some times that are completely fixed with patches.. To the point that a game to me seems like instead of a 7.5 it should have gotten a 9.0.. Vampires the Masquerades comes to mind.. That is why I am a firm believer that games should every so often be briefly re-reviewed if it has undergown a huge amount of patching.. Peope say "No they had their chance they should not get a re-review of the game"... Who cares about the devs, reviews are suppose to be for the BUYERS.. NOT the DEVS.. Though at timesit seems like people think thats the case..
