Agreed. Demo is crap. If demo = full version game will get a 3.2 rating. Too many things wrong with this game. EA is rushing FSS to publish the game. Look at C&C 3 at release. Bugged as hell, multiplayers was riddled with in-game exploits, etc etc. Yet another EA game ruined by.. EA.

hasnt hellgate been in production for 5 years?

Why do you care so much? If people like a game, they like a game. It's not that hard of a concept to grasp.
Personally, I know the game is going to rule over lan parties, and I love playing with friends.
The graphics aren't all that great sure, but the character models look good. And I love RPG's, Character creation and development are one of the biggest features for me when it comes to games. I also had fun with the blademaster, dual wield is the best.
Playing with a melee character was awesome, the gameplay is as good as it can be while keeping the RPG elements in. But I still didn't like it that much because it felt like a MMO, and I would had hoped some renewing in the old action-RPG formula besides the camera. Graphics were dated, no voice acting made it feel dated and missions felt like MMO grind missions.
I would say that those who were looking for a good MMO/Multiplayer/Coop (whatever it is) experience will like it, and those who were expecting a nice SP experience might as well forget about it, the lifeless world will make sure that it will get very tedious very fast without other human players.
I was a little disappointed with the overall demo. I can't really describe what i was expecting, but I think maybe my anticipation and expectations of the game were a little too high. I loved Diablo 1 & 2 instantly, but I played through the Hellgate: London demo through with both classes and the love just wasn't there. I thought the voice overs were less than flash, some of the random comments were just weird. I liked the environment, and the interface but I just couldn't get into the gameplay - believe me, I tried, and I really really wanted to enjoy it but I just couldn't it.
If the demo is how the actual game will be I'm not even sure if I'll buy it, let alone pay the extra subscribers fee.
There are a lot of posts for why people dont like it and I am one of them....then there are some who do like it but they dont elaborate. How could you like Hellgate London? The graphics even on very high are dated, the gameplay is awful. The first person part of this game feels VERY tacked on, the hit placement is absolutely absurd. Hey ive got an idea, lets have EVERY npc give you a mission so you can wonder around tunnels trying to complete 400 different missions. Sorry for ranting but I feel hurt by the demo. I really hope the full game is more polished because I know like others this game was supposed to be the "next" diabloesque game. Give me and others reasons why you liked it. Please SHINE A LIGHT IN THE DARK FOR THE REST OF US!!!!31337r4v3n
OK, the first thing EVERYONE needs to do is STOP JUDGING THE GAME BY THE DEMO. The demo was a HUGE mistake by FSS. The demo was boring, slow, and was the equivilent of a D2 demo that ends at the Den of Evil. It was lame and pathetic. I've been in the BETA for some time, and I can't put the game down. At the end of the demo you are still 3 levels from the game really moving and getting interesting. You can by all means not buy the game based on the demo; I don't care.
Yes, the full game has a defined D2 feel to it and unlike D2 the gameplay is more complex and some areas have more scripted action. I'll give an example at the bottom of this post (spoiler).
Something people need to understand about the graphics, and this is important... when you make a game with randomized areas, the textures ARE GOING TO BE SOMEWHAT GENERIC. That is the only way to avoid the obvious tiling that comes with that technology. You will NEVER get the detail and textures from a randomize engine that you can with a hand-crafted environment. Just like the graphics in D1 and D2 were not as good in comparison to hand-crafted graphics with games that came out the same time. You'll just have to get over it until the next technology comes out built around making this work better. With everything turned up max in the beta things look good, and I'm betting DX10 will bring it up to "OK, I can definately deal with that". If you understand the challenges with the randomized environments, you will understand that they actually did a pretty damn good job.
The game is awesome. It is addicting and the item pool is huge. It definately strikes me with the same feelings as D2, but just to a slightly lesser degree. I loved D1 and D2 playing both for years. I loved TQand HG:L is a lot better than TQ IMO.
Buy it or don't buy it... I don't give a rat's ass. However, do it based on something other than that crap demo they handed to us.
***SPOILER ALERT***
You get a quest (forgive me for not remembering the names) to bring a device to a hell rift and "use it". You have to fight your way into a museum and to the rift. Once in the rift you have to fight a boss and other creatures and use the device at a specific area. They you have X-seconds to get out because it turns out to be a bomb. The bomb goes off and closes the rift. Then all the statues in the museum that you had been looking at come to life and you have to destroy them, or run (I prefer detroying them because they drop some sweet items).
This was just atlevel 8

worthy of a double post, some people just don't understand the basics of game creation

Beta was much ebtter than the Demo, it has good depth 20+ onwards , and its really about the online.
How could anyone like CoD4 the demo was **** aswell what a boring game ... ( by your logic)
I really don't see any diablo like qualities in the hellgate demo. The only things that reminded me of it were warts leg and the fact that it is a hack and slash game, which means that it has some gameplay elements similar to diabloII but so does every diabloII clone ever created.
DiabloII had great music background, for its time personally i really enjoyed the graphics, the story was way more interesting from the beginning and there was high quality voice over for everything. The amount of polish in diabloII was almost perfect just like most games from blizzard.
Hellgate felt rushed in alot of areas but it still might be fun after a few hours,i just dont think it is in the same league as diabloII in many aspects.

That's where I stopped reading. I'm not going to explain it again, ever. Just don't buy the game. I'll look forward to one less person hammering the servers on release day.
You stopped reading because i wasn't persuaded by your arguments and i don't agree with you? That is your choice. I am going to ignore those other comments so as not to turn this thread into a flame war.
