In oblivion i am a breton mage and the spells do little damage and i have to run away from the enemy untill my mana regenerates. I have to use a sword wwhich does evern less damage because it's too expensive for my staff to be recharged. Also i don't know how to use alchemy.

At higher levels destruction magic will become useless. Your enemies scale to a resistance too great. Anyways, just make the biggest baddest spell you can and chug a magicka potion after each use. It sucks, but its necissary.

Magic, like everything else in Oblivion, was totally broken - it's generally useless, aside from a handful of spells that make it virtually impossible to lose the game (invisibility, frenzy, summoning spells).

It takes a while for your magic to be kick-butt against enemies. I played a mage and after a while, I became pretty much invincible. The thing about a mage build is that you can't take much in terms of combat blows. My strategy was to build my summon magic so I could conjure a tank to take the close up damage while I shot flame missiles from a distance. I used this strategy throughout a lot of the game. Toward the end, I gained an invisibility spell that would last for a couple of minutes...so I'd just summon a tank and then make myself invisible while my tank killed and distracted a good portion of the enemies for me. My suggestion is join the mages guild and finish all those quests. And just get used to the fact that for a while, you're going to spend a lot of time running away until your mana regenerates...and then re-attacking.

use the spell groups that improve your int. and may sure its 5 each time that should help with the magicka problem and try different element based spells since each one does different amount of damage
