I can't find cases. I don't understand. I built a PC (I didn't really know what I was doing) Now I'm having trouble building a laptop.

you cant really build a laptop. you can custom order them through companies like HP and Dell and the like but not something you can really build yourself from scratch

oh there are but their still not what i would classify as portable.. basically they look and feel similar to a psone (if you know what one of those even is) and are about the size of a small generic briefcase.

you can gather the parts yourself and start disassembling them and put mobo, storage, ram, and gpu all on the same motherboard like apple did with their apple mac air. you'd have to custom build your own case and test the acoustics and cooling of the system. Then you'd have to make your own lithium ion battery. it's not easy so you should stick to custom building pc

Some misinformation here. It is hard but not "virtually impossible" DIY laptops work like this: 1. But the case/frame/whatever that will include the screen mobo, keyboard and case. 2. Buy the CPU, ram, graphics card, hard drive, CD drive. 3. Put stuff from step 2 in to what you got from step one. People far overestimate the complicatedness of building or upgrading laptops. You can find parts and stuff at Directron, ebay, and sometimes newegg.

Thanks for the responses, but I saw some tuts on how to build a laptop. Should I just buy a cheap laptop and swap out the parts I want to have? (BTW this laptop is not made for gaming... well, maybe moderate gaming.)

Just buy a prebuilt with what you want and upgrade down the line, unlike desktops, building a laptop is not markedly cheaper than buying a prebuilt.

Where do you recommend I start? HP, Sony VAIO, Dell, ASUS, etc?

I would reccomend Asus myself, but is mostly preference.

It is technically possible to build a laptop, but you would have to use the right parts for the frame/case ect, so it's going to be no different or cheaper than buying a prebuilt laptop. All you'd be doing is putting in the parts that would have come with the frame in the first place.

You don't. Almost everything in a laptop except the CPU, RAM, and HDD is proprietary and not interchangeable between laptops.

If our canary is 7 foot 2 inch and just won the "Strongest Man In The World" contest, he could build a computer the size of a washing machine and still call it a portable...

Within the 20 to 26 watt GPU power budget, Geforce GT335 gets beaten by AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5650/5730/5830.

u can't really build a diy laptop because there are no standards. since there are no standard specifications on laptops, case and motherboard companies cannot create laptop cases or mobo. computer manufacturers that makes laptops uses their own standards and it's proprietary
