I currently have premium 32 bit, but I want 64 bit version so I can use all of my 4 gbs of ram. and I heard some where that 64 bit version is already on the windows disc or something like that. Also I think I read that you can download 64 bit for free if you have already bought windows vista 32 bit. Thanks in advance.

The 64bit version is not on the 32bit disc. You can pay microsoft shipping for the 64bit installation or you can try getting a copy from somewhere. It will use the same product key as the 32bit version.

You need a CPU that supports 64Bit.

Its around $10 I think. Do you have a retail copy of Vista? That link won't work if you bought a OEM version or it came with your PC.

Pretty sure you will have to buy a new copy then. Or, if you know someone with an OEM disk you can use your key on it, or get a copy some way you can use your legal key on it.

Actually if it came with your PC you might be out of luck period. Ifs a Dell or some other big OEM, your key probably wouldn't work on a "standard" oem disk, so you will probably have to buy a copy of Vista if you want 64-bit.

I think technically, you only purchase the product key, not the physical CD, so I wouldn't pay for another copy of Windows if I were you.

Go to start, right click on my computer, and look at the product key. If it has OEM in the key, then you will not be able to reuse it.

Well it is certainly not worth $100 just to be able to use 900mbs more ram. Either find some way to get it for free, or just stick with 32 bit Vista.

If you go to control panel / system, it will tell you how much ram is recognized. It depends on what exactly is in your system, especially as far as video card(s).

What does task manager show under performance / physical mem? If your running a 1gb card with 4gb of ram, you would have at most 3GB... probably under 3gb.

The 32bit version is better imo. The extra 700MB of ram wouldn't make a difference in anything. The 32bit version can use up to 3.5GB depending on your PC. It defeats the purpose of having a 64bit OS if you still have to use 32bit applications.

I wouldn't pay for another copy. You can get copy from so many places but I would stick with 32bit for now. The windows installation CD itself isn't worth anything....what you pay for is the license to use the product.

well the reason I started to think about 64 bit just resently was because I bought stalker clear sky and it starts screwing up when I turn on dx10 support. I can run the game smooth with all set to max at 1600x1050 with AA, but when I turn on dx10 it just goes all wierd. so I figured an extra doze of ram would do the trick:P

I heard that game is just buggy. 64bit isn't going to fix anything.
