How do i get certain programs from not running at Startup??

I know the whole msconfig thing and startup tab then unselecting them but....... Everytime i use a program like Ares or Utorrent or MSN etc etc they come back on the startup tab. Now i tried deleting them from it alltogether int he registry but the programs just make it again.

Is there a way to stop this?

With programs like that, it's usually a configuration option within the program itself.  I know with MSN messenger, for instance, sometimes you have to go into the program in the preferences or options menu or something.  I'm not positive off the top of my head, but if msconfig isn't working try checking that out.

I use easycleaner for this purpose. Which finds all apps that are set to load on windows start up and allows you to delete them from there (it's very usefull for all other "cleaning" you might want to do also). But like the previous poster said, also check the preferences of the applications otherwise there's a good chance they will come back again sooner or later.

Yeh but as soon as i start the program again it auto turns it on :(

 

Btw how do i get rid of Ctfmon? It says its a microsoft word process which i dont use grrr sooo annyoing.

Use another program...

As for ctfmon, it's part of the Office XP suite. Here are the removal instructions:
