Buy some old games , CS , Half life , Call of duty , Medal of honour , Age of empires . They are legendary , and they won't take down your PC unless it's from 96'

well, PC gaming isn't as expensive as people say it is, and if you need to upgrade then

  1. give us your computer specs.
  2. go to the PC hardware forum, and they can tell you what upgrades you need, the best deals, and a total price.
  3. build your own computer, you'll get ripped off if you buy them pre-built, even on newegg.com

Also, no, your PC doesn't need to be expensive to have fun, but remember, you can't play anything new with outdated hardware (for example of an outdated graphics card, a graphics card that can't use directx 9)

also, there's tons of classic games like Deus Ex, and hell, even the really old games like Fallout and Baldurs gate are still great, and those came out like, in the early or mid 90s, not 100% sure though.

Tell us your PC specs (no problem if you don't know them.) and mainly, what kind of games you like.

if you are using XP, you can find your PC specs by right clicking my computer, and clicking 'properties', and also, by looking at 'system info' in accessories.

writing down your specs would be nice, but if you dont know how to find your compy's specs, these games should be old enough for your computer to run:

Half Life

Homeworld

Warcraft III

Starcraft

Diablo II

Elder Scrolls III Morrowind

Baldur's Gate II

Civilization IV

Rome Total War

your computer should be able to run these, but if you could list your specs, it would help.

yeah, and maybe half-life 2 won't even hurt your PC, also try Dawn of War, those are great RTS games, and aren't demanding at all!

I have almost the same PC in my last rig - Call of Duty. It runs good on that system and has a riveting single player and fun multi.

With 500 dollars you can have a PC that maxes out most games to date.

tbh, I didn't know crap about PC gaming, but my parents bought me a PC when I graduated high school so I picked out the cheapest alienware (1500 dollars with a 15" monitor and nice speakers). I know it was probably a bad deal, but I had more fun on it than I would have with a laptop (sister got that when she graduated).

Since then (04), I have given the alienware (for free) to my brother and built a PC. It was fun and cost 1500 with a huge 22" monitor. I kept the speakers since they are great and have a 250W Subwoofer.

I really don't think the alienware was too big of a rip off back then, now they are a huge rip.

If you exclude FPS games and have a monitor, then its possible. Otherwise, i don't see how.

I'd go searching your games store for the used bin and dig up some classics. They may not be the best looking things you have ever seen but remember gameplay>graphics.

My personal favorites are:

Homeworld

StarLancer

Worms Armaggedon

Age of Empires 2

Civilization 2 and 3. (4 may have a hard time with your PC)

Shogun: Total War

No, any game. Unless it's horribly optimized. My computer is 600 dollars total (but the power supply I bought + the hard drive are much cheaper now). I can max out Oblivion (some frame rate issues because the developers suck at optimizing it), Call of Duty 2 and 4, Unreal Tournament 3, Command and Conquer 3, Bioshock and of course World of Warcraft with little to no lag.
