I have a Tuniq Tower but how do you know if it's working? I searched for a video and the guy on the vid said that you can have it on passive, meaning you do not have to plug in the 2-pin wire ijto the CPU fan socket. Is this true? I also saw that you can plug in the 2-pin wire into the CPU fan socket if you want to.. Now I did that and I dont know if the fan inside the tuniq tower is working. Does it even come with a fan inside? I didnt even bother to check...I checked my OC Tuner and it says CPU fun: 0 RPM and now I'm wonderng what's the problem with it... Need help, thanks.

1. What is your CPU and what is its temperature reading?

2. Did you install the included fan controller that slides into one of the rear PCI slots?

3. Have you tried checking the RPM data with another program, like SpeedFan?

4. Are you sure the 2-pin connector is plugged in correctly? The motherboard plug should have 4 (or rarely, 3) pins, and it's possible the plug is on the wrong pins. My computer is on, so I can't check to see which are the correct pins, but I know that it's plugged into the pins like so: --xx (x being where it's plugged in)

E8500 CPU and it's reading 50C, so i'm pretty sure the tuniq isnt working...

I dont know how to install the fan controller because I dont know where to plug the 2-pin wire. Which socket?

I haven't tried checking the RPM with another program. I will download Speedfan.

I read the motherboard manual and it said to line up the black wire with the ground socket which is the pin all the way to the right. My motherboard has four pins, and my tuniq tower has 2-pins.

Ok, Speed fan says 35C for the CPU temp. Which sounds more like it.

If the fan is moving and you have it placed correctly then its working. Maybe you didn't put enough Thermal grease on? Is that temp on load or on idle? I generally get about 32 Celsius idle with my 4ghz Clock, keep in mind I live in Canada so its alot colder then most places.

As I'm typing right now, 35C so I guess on Idle right? I put more thermal compound than most people did, lol. I put a thin layer over the entire surface of the CPU. So I'm sure there's more than enough.

What I'm worried about is, the 120mm fan inside spinning? And where do you plug in the wire for the Fan Controller? I plugged the wire from the Tuniq Tower to the CPU fan socket on the mother board, aligned the black wire with "ground" pin like the manual said. I dont know if it's on because I heard Tuniq Tower is so silent. And Speedfan says CPU fan: 0 rpm...Ugh.. so frustrating. :(

Yeah, I have it plugged in just like that. red wire on the left, black wire on the right matching "ground" pin. Is that right?

This might be your problem: You're supposed to have a 3-pin connector for the motherboard, not the 2-pin one. I took a picture of my system as an example:

Assuming you have the stock fan in your Tuniq (as I do), yours should have two connectors: a 3-pin for the motherboard and a 2-pin for the fan controller.

EDIT: As an aside, if you bought the Tuniq for quiet operation, you bought the wrong heatsink. It's pretty quiet on its lowest setting (at about 1000 RPM), but it's not up to the decibel quality of a Scythe Ninja or even a Thermalright Ultra with a quiet fan attached. If the rest of your system is loud, you shouldn't hear it, though.

Oh crap, I hooked up the wrong one... and the 3-pin connector is somewhere under the Tuniq... omg... So this means I have to pull out the Tuniq Tower and redo this... :(

Before you do that, are you sure you can't pull out the 3-pin connector by hand? That would save a lot of hassle and frustration. (At least you don't have it installed on an AM2 socket. The little clip required is the most obnoxious piece of...metal I've ever had to use in a computer build.)

I'm going to try. I knew there was a another connector in there somewhere but it would come out as I tried pulling it so I just quit on it because I didnt want to rip apart any connectors by accident. I will try to yank it out as best as I can. :)

If you were a silence enthusiast, the Thermalright would be better. As a gaming heatsink, the TRUE is still better, but not significantly. It'll save you a few degree over Tuniq, but it also costs a little more, and the installation is similar for both.

Let's just say, on passive (connectors not plugged in), my CPU is running at 35C. So imagine when this thing is fully powered up. :D It's a great sink.

Before you yank it out, make sure it isn't snagged on any part of the heatsink. When I first got my Tuniq, I was having a hell of a time freeing the 3-pin cord, and I almost cut it off on one of the fins. If you can't free the cord easily, unscrew the plack plate on the top and try pulling out the fan from above. That might give you some wiggle room to get ahold of the cord.

I don't know much about the IFX, but judging from the reviews I saw and the lack of hype I've seen on message boards, it's not an improvement over the TRUE unless you hook up two high-speed, high-noise fans to it. Also, it's huge, heavy, and unwieldy, and doesn't offer much beyond maybe another MHz of overclocking overhead.

I'm back, with updates. Entire system dropped 6C, from 46C to 37C. CPU temp dropped 4C, from 35C to 31C. Arctic cooler hasnt really kicked in yet. It's only been a day, almost 2 days. So yeah. Thanks a million, Ajkalan. :)

Tuniq Tower fan is running at 1148 RPM, for now. :)

Weeeee! That was fun. It's still a lot quieter than my 230mm side case fan. My 230mm fan is so loud.. thinking about turning it off, but I'm going to wait until I get my 140mm VGA fan first, which is coming in the mail. The Tuniq fan almost hit 2200 RPM, pretty nice! :D

You're lucky. If I unplugged my 230mm fan, it would be silent. But like I said, I would have to wait for that 140mm VGA fan, and possibly get another fan for the blowhole vent. That's a nice 200mm fan you got there, nice and quiet.

LOL. Yeah, that Tuniq Tower is one sexy beast but it also resembles a big piece of ham. It nearly grazed the chassis of my tower case, left with a bit of headroom in between. But yeah, it's huge. I'm glad I went with the full-tower case. Phew! :P

How many fans do you have total? And what are their sizes correspondingly? I'd like to know so I can achieve your SYSTEM temp. My System temp is 46C, because the arctic cooler hasnt set in, but it's probably because I'm missing two fans. Oh yeah, and my HD 4870 runs really hot too (80C idle! factory default), which makes the System temp even higher.. I need to fanfix that now.

Ah ok, very nice. :D I have (2) 120mm fans, and (1) 230mm. I'm one fan short, which I'll place as the VGA fan, and I'll probably invest some money in another for the blowhole. If I like the temps that I get, I might not even buy the one for the blowhole.

I glanced over your blog. That's a really coooool rig. I love the leds, lol. Very nice. I can see what you mean by the Tuniq Tower getting in the way of a side case fan. Looks awesome. I should be posting pics soon. I think today will be the last day of ironing out all the kinks and issues I had with my build. The last one was an audio problem which was actually my audio connector and not the PC. That was fixed. And before that, my Tuniq Tower, which this thread is about, was also fixed. I dont think there will be anymore problems. I hope, lol. Oh yeah, I gotta do that fanfix.. ugh. One more!

Thanks...tho my red lights for some reason died when i switched cases..ill have to get some new ones.

Ill have to figure out the fan fix tomorrow when my 4870 gets here...cant wait. :D

[QUOTE="Elann2008"]How many fans do you have total? And what are their sizes correspondingly? I'd like to know so I can achieve your SYSTEM temp. My System temp is 46C, because the arctic cooler hasnt set in, but it's probably because I'm missing two fans. Oh yeah, and my HD 4870 runs really hot too (80C idle! factory default), which makes the System temp even higher.. I need to fanfix that now.beefdog

I have 3 120 mm case fans and 1 200 mm fan

Lol nice. I hope that you enjoy the HD4870 as much as I do. I'm running Crysis on all Very High UP TO 19x12 res. Although I prefer 1680 res. I cant wait to either crossfire, or sell the HD4870 and get the HD4870x2. I'll have to see benchmarks first. :D
