Well for the only two Vista only games out.. I think the Games for Windows Live tag is a good indicator that it's Vista only. And of course, the trusty ole system requirements label we all know and love.

Not exactly. Games for Windows branded titles work on Windows XP and Windows Vista based PCs, including both 32 and 64 bit editions. Games for Windows titles that support controllers are also compatible with the Microsoft XBOX 360 controller for Windows, including the XBOX 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. They even support widescreen resolutions and more.http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/AboutGFW/Pages/gamesForWindows.aspx

well, of course the games with the "Games for Windows" banner are not Vista only! I wrote in my post "games for windows LIVE". I'm referring to the cross-platform nature associated with those games which happen to be Vista only. Oh, the confusion!

Im agree with BounceDk, not all the gamesthat havethe label "Games for Windows" onthe boxare meant to be Vista (DirectX-10) only...those games with the label of "Games of Windows" are games that are compatible with DirectX 9 and DirectX 10, sometimes DirectX-10 only, but not always, and then they are also compatible with the xbox-360 controller, and published by Microsoft (sometimes, like Halo 2 and Shadowrun), just take a look at the box of Company of Heroes and Lost Planet, they have the "Games for Windows" label but they'r not Vista only, they are compatible with Windows Vista but not exclusive, Lost Planet supports xbox-360 controller but Company of Heroes is mouse only and its not published by Microsoft....so on...make your conlusions..

Im agree with BounceDkTheCrapp

As Xcryonicx stated (twice, even), it's not the "Games for Windows" part, but "Games for Windows LIVE" part that indicates Vista only-ness. Seeing as how Games for Windows LIVE is a Vista-only application, it'd be kinda hard for it to be backwards compatible with XP.

And to the TC, here's a good hint:

  1. Look at the system requirements that are posted on the box
  2. In the field that starts with "OS" or "Operating System," if it says "Vista only" then the game is Vista only

Go on the game's forum and if there are 10 threads on the first page whining about it, then it's probably vista only.

I guess it's going to be like that now in the beginning before all games require DX10 ... ? I sure don't want to move to Windows Vista yet, and hope to avoid it for as long as possible.

It will be on the bottom of the box generally, sometimes on the bottom back, where the System Requirements are

Read the system requirements on the back. If it doesn't say Windows XP then it's only for Vista

The word VISTA is pretty prominent on those game boxes...

System requirements:

- A working set of eyes & a brain.
