I heard that it gives you better performance in games because it uses much less RAM. Can someone tell me how to turn it off? Thanks.

Running Aero doesn't affect game performance. Vista must shut it down automatically whilst gaming (guess).

The first thing I do when I install vista is turn off all that visual crap.  And it does make a big difference in performance!  I always turn all the visual stuff off in XP too.  For the life of me I have no idea why anyone would want see through window edges and a useless clock on the desktop.  You already have a clock in the corner!!

All that worthless junk was just put in Vista to make people that think Apple's look cool happy!  I have no interest to EVER have any of that visual crap turned on, even if I had an e6800 with a 8800GTX I would still have it turned off!

Here is the way my Vista desktop looks-

I have to say that I do like the Aero interface, and it runs super smooth on my system. I've also run a few benchmark tests and found that it hardly impacts on 3D performance in games. So I have Aero on.

I didn't.  I got it for free from work and have it as a dual boot and never use it.  The real question is what kind of idiots would go out and buy an OS just because of the way it looks?!?!  The one and only feature Vista has that I care about at all is DX10, but I dont have a DX10 card yet and there are no DX10 games out yet so the OS is totaly useless right now.

I also got Vista free from the workplace so I decided that I might as well use it. :)

Why would idiots go out and buy something that looks good?

Because we idiots love things that look good.
Why date a hot chick, when you can get a fat ugly one?
