I will soon be traveling out of the country, and was browsing Gametap's showcase of their free games, including Deus Ex, Thief, Hitman, and Psychonauts. However, I am unsure if I will have a reliable internet connection where I'll be staying. Does anyone know if I need to connect to the internet every time I play a Gametap game? I presume I will download the full game before I leave, and since it's free, I'll be able to play it without having to connect to the internet.

last i checked, you needed to be connected to play any game ya get from them, but that was a couple years ago. email them and ask, i'm sure they'll give you the most reliable response.

From my experience, you need internet to connect to the Gametap player, but once you're in, you can launch any of the games you've already downloaded even if your internet goes down. You do, of course, need internet to first download them, though. However, if your internet drops out in the middle of a download, it's not a problem; you can quit out of the player and go back in when your internet is back up, and the download will pick back up where it left off.

Not very well.

It was quite some time ago that I tried it though. Some games I couldn't even get to run.

Anyway, they have a free trial, unless they were crazy and did away with that.

Even better, they are offering quite a few quality games, for free! I heard there are ads, but it's FREE!

I tried gametap for 2 months (it literally only costed me 99 cents for both combined). The service works fine, but you definitely need to be connected to the internet to start playing the game. You can however disconnect from the internet once you are playing the game I believe.

As for the service... it works pretty well. I eneded up playing psychonauts, Sam & Max season 1 and 2, PST and Icewind Dale 1 and 2 and they were all really good games that I were meaning to play. And for less than a dollar (you just have to remember to cancel your account before it starts charging 10/month) it was an incredible value.

I downloaded GameTap a while ago, it had a great selection of games, but most you have to pay for. I played some of the available free games, but after that I deleted it.
