how does linux get along with gaming?

was thinking ,if i can't get microsoft to let me use my windows 7 oem on the new mother board, maybe i'll just set it up with ubuntu. i have almost no experience with linux... so i have no idea. i have installed it for my dad and played around a bit with a dual boot on my old system for a few days but never really did anything with it.

It used be okay, now though Windows cornered that market with Direct X. Just MS being MS, if they can't kill it then they'll take stuff away from it.

Oh and to answer your question, it doesn't play well at all, you need a really strong machine to get games working on it using WINE and even then it's not guaranteed.

Linux gets along great with games... but few games are made to work on Linux.

Short answer: you need Windows for a gaming rig

I wish Linux were good for gaming. That would be at least another 60£ saved by not buying Windows which could instead be put towards better hardware or games.

well, i guess i have my asnwer. i just really hope now that mincrosoft will be nice to me... bleh, i really don't want to buy windows again.

wine hq for compatability. It uh works with steam, recommend using winetricks for proper fonts. It's kind of a pain in the ass, I wouldn't recommend it but I do have quite a bit of gaming exp with Linux. supermeatboy works without problems provided you install directx. Quake Live is native for Linux ;)

Oh and I don't know if you realize this but there is no exe support in Linux, has to be used with an interpreter like wine.
