With or without AA?
If without, you can expect probably an average of 5-15 FPS boost depending on the location of the game.
SSJBen
with a HD4850 :S
It would be higher then that surely
EDIT
I miss read, would that be a 5-15fps bost from over the 8800GT?, becasue i may aswell get the 8800GT if thats the case.
5-15FPS in Crysis can be the difference between playing the game and watching a slideshow.
RayvinAzn
damn right... a 4850 handles the game fine, ive tested my new pc at the shop (had to, since they stress test the pc for free) Q6600, 4 gigs of ram, vista 64, and 4850, i got 40-50 fps with DX9 Very high tweak
cool ok, so if the HD4850 handles the game well at 40fps, how does the 8800GT cope with it?Chris_53
With AA enabled it'll probably be around 12FPS slower on average. Without AA the gap closes up a bit, most likely to around 8FPS. Approximate numbers of course.

There is a benchmark posted above and it's 4FPS without AA.8800GT also overclocks better than 4850 so really not much a significant difference at all.Remember how ridiculously optimized crysis is for nvidia.[QUOTE="RayvinAzn"][QUOTE="Chris_53"]cool ok, so if the HD4850 handles the game well at 40fps, how does the 8800GT cope with it?Spybot_9

8800GT SLI will beat a 4850 regardless of whether the game is nvidia optimized or not.8800GT SLI will beat quite a few of the new-gen cards.Larrymon2000
really? well since i have 1, SLI is only 150.00
Supposedly, an 8800GT in SLI has better average framerate than a GTX 260, but you should also consider micro-stuttering, and plus a single-card setup is preferable to multi-GPU (IMO). Of course, since you do have that 8800GT, no point in letting it go to waste.Larrymon2000
No point in upgrading it either, to be honest.

Thats it? my 8800GT at 1280x1024 averages 45fps.
My Cpu is at stock speed 3GHz and my 8800GT is only oc'ed to 660/1650/1950 not very much of a overclock, but ya his Cpu might be slower.04dcarraher
My CPU isn't much slower, I have a Q6600 at 2.8 GHz and the HD4850 is at stock speed. I think it's just because there are still no offical drivers supporting the 4850. Were you running the benchmark that came with Crysis to determine your FPS?

Ive used Fraps,Xfire,Crysis benchmark and What Ive seen while playing.
He might have a less powerful cpu, since I've heard that Crysis is more dependent on the CPU than these games usually are. Plus yours might have a very large OC. In general, the 4850 should surpass the 8800GT by quite a bit, assuming identical test environment.Larrymon2000
CPU is important in crysis? maybe thats why it studders when i blow up buildings....i only have a amd 4800+
but either way, im buying the Q9300 next week, so will that give me better performance?

Odd, I searched the internet for a bit and found that some people averaged 47 fps on a 4850 while others averaged 41 fps. I might try and overclock my cpu to 3.0 GHz to see if that makes any difference, but I still think it is probably just because the 4850's are in need of good drivers.

There's a difference between looking at what Fraps displays and using the Crysis benchmark. People's ego tend to over-estimate what average fps they see on the screen. ;)

1440x900 is lower then 1280x1024
If your into crysis alot i would suggest nvidia for your gpu. Its reality sadly.
My 2x 4870 CF only gets about 68 FPS average in the benchmark 1280x1024 no AA all/high
1680x1050 4x AA is 39fps all/high
1920x1200 no AA is 51fps average all/high
1920x1200 4xaa is 32fps average all/high
While gaming on the demo with the console FPS command, not FRAPS, I was getting above the demo average most of the time on the beach area even during fighting. Overall it is good.. but could be better yes. Crysis just likes nvidia better.

And that is how you came up with that number?:?I dont know why people go on comparing crysis FPS numbers and will try to work out why there PC is slow when they dont even know exactly what settings and AA the other guy is running let alone his basis for calculating the average FPS.
If Crysis is more optimised for nVidia, then arnt I better off getting the 8800GT?
Also id be saving money and the 8800GT ran run pretty much every other game with ease cant it?
I dont plan on getting SLI and my motherboard doesnt support crossfire.
However if in a few months time i decided to add another 8800GT for SLI, would I get much benefit at 1440X900 and also would my 600W OCZ StealthXtreme PSU handle it?
bumb

also ive read that the HD4850 has bad heat issues and im not prepared to buy an aftermarket cooler.
If i get the 8800GT, what fps can i expect with an AMD X2 5600+ at 2.9GHz
Chris_53
You Fps should be around like mine 40's average.
OMG
Well I have just found this 8800GTX

The Asus HD4850 is only £7 more and is faster than the 8800GTX, including Crysis.
Too broad a question for me to answer as it depends on resolution and your standards and the fact that I dont know the requirements of future games.right, one more question
with the 4850 and even the 8800GT for that matter, how long to you thinkit ll be before i need to upgrade again?
thanks
Chris_53
Anyways I would make a braod guess and say if you play in lower res and arent an elitist than you should be fine atleast till a next console arrives.
