I have windows 7 running (fairly fast) on a system from 2002, it has a 2.4ghz P4 single core, 1gb of ram but only 64mb of video ram. I used to have XP running on it untill I lost the CD after reformatting the hard drive to mess around with linux and OSX86 project (which didn't f***ing work) so I could never get it running. I am worndering how the performance will compair to XP in terms of gaming. It isn't my main system, and I don't realy have to game on it but I am just wondering.

I would think that it would certainly run games better than Vista due to using up less memory, but it probably won't run games as good as XP due to a number of factors. One being Windows 7 is still in beta and the compatibility to older programs isn't the greatest yet and secondly, Windows 7 does have higher system requirements than XP. There really is only one way to find out the answer to your question though. We could speculate all day long, but the best way to find out is to simply install a game or two on your system.

With only 1 GB of RAM, it would be difficult on your system in terms of gaming performance.

Surely the obvious limiting factor for any game on this system is the 64mb of vram? Old games will run on low settings but any new games are very unlikely to play at all. On windows 7 as well, chances probably arent great. Give it a shot anyway though

some tests have shown win7 to perform a bit better, but no new games is going to run very well on a 64mb gpu even running win 98.

Only straight benchmarks I've seen have been anandtech's - right now Win7 performs about the same as Vista in games, which is generally about the same as XP.

It'll be able to run that game easy.
