I've been reading about the 680 this morning and one the things that popped out to me was that someone said its close to as powerful as 3 580's. (Their words not mine.) So with that in mind I'd imagine you'd need a top of the line CPU. Anybody have any idea of an AMD or Intel example?

It's not 3X as powerful at all. It's more similar to a GTX 590, sometimes better.

A 2500k would be fine.

I doubt the 3x580's... But any decent quad cores will do... i5''s for intel and Phenom II X4 or FX line for AMD

Any quad CPU made in the last 2-3 years should be fine..... at 1080p res or higher it wont matter. And no a GTX 680 is not better then 3 GTX 580's, at least not in performance.

The Rig on your sig looks entirely fine, I don't think you need to upgrade your GPU. Just save up your money for a couple more years for a new rig in the long run.

If you really want to buy something I recommend a 27" 2560x1440 IPS display. Your current setup is pretty much giving you GTX 680 speed anyway... not worth the upgrade. The monitor will make a bigger difference to your gaming and general computer experience.

Thanks for all the input I was thinking about a new monitor or at least a second though.

I would wait an get an ivy bridge new motherboard and ivy bridge cpu as 22nm will be great. In 2 months time you will know that nothing is outdated and this will be top end technology for 2 years and should last 4 years easily for anything gaming wise while being efficient.

I recommend an i7 2600k if you get sandy bridge minimum as gtx 680 is very powerful. i7 3770k will be good enough as well when its available and it is ivy bridge 22nm 3rd gen core i7.

Some people spend way too much money on this hobby.... Why not take the $800 you would spend and buy a one year bond.... and when you take it out april 2013 use it to upgrade? I mean you have 2 560s... even with the toughest games you never drop low enough to cry about it. PLUS... xbox 720 will hit the scene in late 2013 and start to put pressure on games THEN NOT NOW. Everything points toward putting your money in the bank Cj19

Because I'm a 23 year old single man with a disposable income, I already have a TSP and other means of savings. Plus I personally feel like what's the point of having money if you can't have fun with it. I'll probably be dead before 70. Additionally as you said it's a hobby and just as with any hobby there's always room for improvement. 1GB VRAM AINT ENOUGH FOR ME!!!!!

My logic makes perfect sense when a 560ti not even SLi can't "MAX" out BF3 due to lack of vram. HAHA!!!

The same as any others should be everything as high as possible. You know the definition of maximum.
