fudzilla goofed.. they neglcted to add in details and info ont he hd 6870 with their release date announcement i posted earlier..

core clock: 900mhz

1 or 2gb gddr5 clocked @ 1050mhz or 4200mhz if you factor in quad band and the 256-bit memory interface.

dual slot cooler and crossfire (4 or 5 cards*)

two 6-pin power connectors.

price:

euro: 275 - 300

US: $275 - $300

http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/item/20486-radeon-hd-6870-officially-at-900mhz

this data aboves suggest it will fit right where the hd 5850 currently is as well as the gtx 470's bottom rung of cards (by price).

this would place the 6850 at about the gtx 460 1gb's terrain at $225 - $250 the 6850 has a core clock as well of 900mhz that is all we know thus far about the 6850's clock speeds

* = based on details from chiphell that were all in tiawanese

as far as 3dmarko6 is concerned the 5870 is better BUT 3dmark is not a true reprisentation of gpu preformance NOR do we have working drivers for it or support for it when running 3dmark.

basically yes its scores are worse but this can be attributed to NOTHING being as it should.. in 2 weeks the story will probably be significantly different.

currently the 6850 has slightly better scores than a gtx 460 1gb and the 6870 is on par with a 470

any idea on the number of shaders? and (just so i have this straight) the 6970 will then be AMDs strongest single GPU when it comes out? 900MHz is pretty darn quick...my 5850 only goes at 765MHz at the mo (though i think a standard 5850 is 725MHz)..

Hard to tell which would be better as the 6870 isnt out yet, but the 6870 is not meant to be the successor to the 5870 but rather it's the successor to the 5770. With that said I think overall theyre pretty close to being even, but I would think the 5870 has a slight edge over the 6870.

Hopefully it will be priced lower. At that price the gtx460 could keep its current price and still look at as atractive solution. If the HD6850 is priced at $199, then we should be finding gtx460 at the price range of $149, and that would be a true win for customers on a budget.

How do you even fit 5 cards in a normal case? :P I'd hate to be that card in the middle though...

I cant wait to see in game perfomance comparisons with all (current) gpu's here around January.

including the hd5 series, and the gtx 4 and gtx 2 series cards.

Wow, i really hoped it would reach more closer to the 460 at about 190 or 200,

the 67xx series also comes out next week right? (the new 56xx )

I would really like a sub 150 or less graphics card that is better than the 4850/gts 250 or the 5750

The real deal will be on older model cards, potential price changes of all AMD cards and price to performance. As of now taking newegg as a cue, 5850's range from $250 to $320. 5870's range between $340 to $420 (USD). Personally I could see the 6870 at $300 on release and within a month hover around $270-300. 5870 would probably sit within its price range possibly dropping a bit to $320-400 and the 5850's sitting at $220- 250. It though will depend exactly how performance plays out but i'm leaning to those price ranges now. Always good stuff. A good mix of brackets to anyone wanting in at certain price ranges.

My complete price totals on AMD/ATI cards i'm leaning too are (IN USD)

  1. 5870: $320-400
  2. 6870: $270-300
  3. 5850: $250-299
  4. 6850: $200-250
  5. 5830: $160-200
  6. 5770: $110-150
  7. 5750: $80-100
  8. 5670: $60-80

Still on a 256-bit interface? AMD should have jacked it up to 512-bit.

Virtually all mid to high end cards have a 256-bit bus and that will eventually become a bottleneck.

There used to be 512 bit memory interface cards all over, but memory got faster, and it was cheaper to go with a 256 bit bus and faster memory.

If memory continues to get faster, the width of the interface doesn't matter that much.

This^

6950, 6970 and 6990 will replace the 5850, 5870 and 5970 respectively.

I dont know why theyve changed it, its just confusing and they will have so many different cards out.
