This really all depends how much of a graphics monger you are. I've been using an 8800 GT for over 2.5 years and I'm still fine with it because it plays the games I want at a decent frame rate and they still look good.
If you are fine with medium settings and getting 35 fps and not 95 fps stick with the 260... if you need to see every single texture and can't stand the fact that you don't get 95 FPS (even though you can't see them) then upgrade.
I have installed a GTX 260 in my partners machine and a 275GTX in mine,
There is no reason to be thinking of upgrading if i were you.
I used to one of those guys who upgraded cards pretty regular but from a personal level the cost never justified the means.
As long as its not choppy and plays a good frame rate for you dont worry about what reviews or tech sites say ;)
Awesome card for how cheap they are nowadays. I can run Crysis with everything maxed on mine and get 25-50 FPS no matter what's going on. Plus depending on where you get it you can get a free Steam game download; I got Arkham Asylum the week it released :P.
At full HD without AA you will be fine, to buy one new would be silly but since it was the best card out 2 years ago you have no reason to worry. Graphicshavnt had any major leaps in terms of hardware killers for a few years. Metro 2033is pretty hefty but youre not using DX11.
I have a GTS 250 513MB that I got sometime ago, i know its basically a remodeled 9800 but how does it fair against the GTX 260?
dont plan to turn up AA guys..but definitely want reasonable frame rates at 1920x1080..havent tried 1680x1050,,will do that. Thanks for the help guys! Got a little bit of frame stutter in Broderlands at 1080p(@50 hz) which brings me to another question..is 1080p(@50hz) better for gaming or my native screen resolution of 1920x1080 @60hz??? (because when i open my Nvidia control panel...it recommends 1080p @50hz...however i believe higher refresh rate should be better)
Not really sure about that, but try both and see which gives you better performance. There is no such thing as "better", because it depends on the kind of computer you have and the performance you can get out of it.dont plan to turn up AA guys..but definitely want reasonable frame rates at 1920x1080..havent tried 1680x1050,,will do that. Bro GTX 260 is definitely more powerful than GTS 250..i even had a 9800 gt earlier..there is a stark performance difference!

Bro for the same comp i believe more refresh rate would be better. Me got a gtx 260 216 with e8400@3.0 GHz with 4 gb DDR 2 OCz rams@800Mhz on an intel DG35 EC motherboard!
The only reason I would say not to get a GTX 260 and save money from buying a newer card is if you plan on 3D gaming on the PC in the near future. Otherwise the card will run everything currently out maxed at 1680 x 1050 easy. Can't say what itll do at something like 1920 x 1080 though. I have had my system since march last year and my 260 has been running everythingwith no problems (excluding poorly optimized titles like The Witcher which would have frame rate issues even on a fermi)
