The gameplay may be similar, but it's an MMORPG about story. If you don't like story, don't play TOR.
I'm enjoying it so far except for the fact that finding a group for an instance is next to impossible. I tried for over an hour tonight and finally got one and then the game crashed. There are still alot of bugs, but I have been enjoying myself and that is all that matters. I really like the fact the each character has his/her own story. I'm playing a level 17 commando, medic specced. Still figuring out the heals. Reminds me of the healers in WAR where you deal damage to be able to heal.

Finding a party for an instance is generally no issue whatsoever. I throw up a comment in general chat, then just do a "/who". Look for people around your level, and copy + paste a statement such as "Needing 2 more for so and so, would you be interested?". I can form a group for almost anything within 1 minute this way. I LOVE this method, reminds me of how I formed the best groups in WoW before dungeon finder. I hope SWTOR can go a long time without implementing a dungeon finder, this method of search really does form relationships unlike a finder.
If you're trying to decide whether to pass up TOR in favor of waiting for a 2012 MMORPG, I'd recommend waiting for either GW2 or TERA. Both are looking leagues better than TOR which is just a WoW clone (except it has voice acting and a story!!1). And when I say WoW clone, I mean it is literally a Star Wars mod for WoW:
So if you really liked WoW and want the same experience you had in WoW...resubscribe to WoW. If you want something new, wait for GW2 or TERA.
SWTOR feels very different from WoW to me and I raided in WoW for 4 years, sure it looks similar but WoW had a good formula, you cant rewrite everything. GW2 will probably have thing similar to WoW aswell, you cant get away from that. In my opinion WoW has gotten very stale, the community can be extremely unforgiving with most aspects of the game. And then they introduce one of the worst looking expantions ever.If you're trying to decide whether to pass up TOR in favor of waiting for a 2012 MMORPG, I'd recommend waiting for either GW2 or TERA. Many other MMOs focus on world encounters, PVP, and various forms of player interaction (politics, economies, guild rivalries, etc.) instead. There are also ways to make the combat less static and hotkey mashing, and play more like an action game. The problem with TOR is that it does nothing new other than a dialogue system which doesn't have much effect on actual gameplay. It's essentially trying to beat WoW at being WoW, which is impossible for obvious reasons.[QUOTE="gameguy6700"]

And I really mean that. TOR feels like WoW a bit, but it feels more like KOTOR 3 single-player with MMO features. You're right, they feel very different. I think people should just enjoy what they like. I believe TOR offers something that many are looking for. Both can co-exist. :)[QUOTE="gameguy6700"]

I'm sorry that you think your super special MMO is different, but in reality it's probably the least original MMO to have come out in recent memory. Even worse, Bioware blew $300 million making it.[QUOTE="gameguy6700"]

Aside from the colors and some parts of the interface---which are standard in almost any MMO---it doesn't look similar to me.

Are your serious? If those screenshots are yours then you did not play it. You grinded through it and did not take the time to enjoy it. That's the only way your could possibly have a pair of top level characters less then a week after release.
MMOG's have always felt like multiple games. At least in length. I could never understand people when they say they hate paying $15 for MMO's sub. It's cheaper than buying several games a year. And the experience may be just as good. I played vanilla WoW for 16 months and it was one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've ever had. And it was cheap. Its got eight seperate story lines. That effectively eight seperate games for the price of one. There is some overlap but its still a better buy them most single players games.

my god there are always the it doesnt do anything new type haters. I dont care if it doesnt do anything new, it does everything very well and its damn fun. Not every game has to rewrite the genre.

its a fantastic game, way better than I expected.

Way, way, way better than I expected.
I'm not bad mouthing, just asking... but weren't you one of the nay sayers... putting this game down?Absolutely. I played the early beta and it was a snooze fest. They have ramped up the diffculty quite a bit from when I played. Now the game is more fun and the community is less ... "childish" than I would have expected. I'm having a ball with my Sith Marauder.
Yesterday, I saw a video of the first boss fight. There were a handful of jedi, each one standing 5-10 feet away from the monster, beating the empty air in front of them with lightsabers until the thing died. It was one of the dullest 6 minutes of my life, and it left me feeling empty inside.
Eight separate games for the price of one, lol... I guess. Maybe eight budget games that use all the same assets and locations :)Its got eight seperate story lines. I think the reason so many games are "wow clones" is because it's essentially the extent to what's technologically possible right now. There have been numerous interviews with MMO developers on what they originally had "envisioned" for the genre but quickly found out available technology dampened their aspirations.[QUOTE="gunmaster55555"] you're an idiot. Really got my curiosity held on this category. What MMO genre and it the genre's flagship title WOW always used to stand out for me among other genres i play the most for it's interesting item variety and other additional content that mostly designed for grinding soo the feel of reward in getting newer items would last or atleast exist.
I only had the chance to play on WoW's free trial model untill my hunter reached level 25. That was somewhere a year ago and got to tell i enjoyed every second of the playthrough.
For that progress i yet had difficulties figuring out why many i knew we're bored of the game before even being able to run out of the game's whole content. I know i might be coming in late into the WOW community even though the game had enough content for me not too care for the features such as PvP and the kinds that don't require exploration.
I am planning on dedicating maybe another 1000's of hours of my passtime on a contentful MMO but since it isn't just WOW anymore but also SWTOR and Guild Wars 2 in competition.
Thats why i need assistance from the MMO veterans in knowing which MMO is still the strongest with it's amount of content in item variety and the fun in fiddling with the general economy in the progress of my character.
I find it to be amazing. I didn't believe that they could integrate a solid storyline with solid MMO mechanics but they did, and I'm happy for it.

Ive played more than my fair share of mmorpgs over the years..Star wars is different dont let the people bashing it persuade you..Its got a good story an its fun..Spent two hours tonight getting to level 14...Had a blast..Never even realy grouped i was with my friend who is a tank and im a healer..We are doin are class quests there good fun..Just to give you a expample..My jedi master attacked me for no reason tonight..Was unexpected..She was a tough cookie also..Had fun with that quest..Ive also grouped on some group instances there a blast with a normal five man group..Its different than wow..Dont let these people tell you any differently..As i said story driven mmorpg its a blast to play..Try it yourself..Dont let some of these negative people from trying some thing new.Judge a game for yourself..If i did that id not have loved alpha protocol one of the best single player games of last year..Shame most of them went and listened to the people who hated the game..Didnt sell well but most of us here did enjoy ap..
Its alot of fun, most fun ive had in a mmo since Ultima Online by a long shot.
Got all teh expansions in WOW, tried Conan, Everquest, Galaxies, Warhammer, Aion,etc... tried so many others to just got bored so fast. This though with its great story line, characters, voice acting, atmosphere and sound deisgn is really a blast, put my faith back into mmos, I had lost all hope for them the last while.
About 30-40 hours in now and not getting boring at all, actually gets better as you go, just seeems like a longer KOTOR that you can do with friends to me and thats great.
Graphics are MEH in some spots and I would like a bit more custimization when creating a character, but those are small things in another wise very good game (not had any crashes or lag either yet luckily).
