Something I've been wondering for a while: How healthy are you?

What kind of foods do you eat, and how much? Do you think PC gaming influences your eating habbits? Is PC gaming occupying time you may otherwise spend doing more healthier things, like sports or passive exercise? Do you think playing PC games has in some way made you more apathetic about your appearance or physical well-being? Do you exercise regularly? Or ever?

My own personal experience has been very up and down over the last few years, and I was wondering if anyone else has found PC gaming a detriment. I know all about the positive effects gaming - especially PC gaming - can have on someone, but I'm wondering about the flipside.

Well, if I didn't play games on the PC I'd sit on the couch watching TV. So it's not really hurting...

I sit at my PC for hours upon hours either gaming, messaging on MSN, surfin the web or listening to music. The only time i'm not at it is when i shower, sleep (if i manage to get to bed), work or spend intimate time with my girlfriend.

The only exercise i get is when i'm walking around, having sex or going paintballing. Otherwise i make no effort to do any exercise what so ever, i hate it and find it a personal waste of my time lol.

What kind of foods do you eat, and how much?

Mostly healthy stuff. I'm sure fanatical health freaks would still lambast me, but I still eat fruit, vegetables, whole wheat bread only, various meats, protein shakes, drink never less than a quarter gallon of water, etc. almost everyday, and the worst I have as far as junk food are the occasional small snack of Cheez-its, four or five Chips Ahoy cookies every other day, usually one 12 oz. Stewart's soda pop each day (caffeine-free, high-quality and expensive soda brand [delicious as hell, though]), and rarely a bowl of ice cream (365 health food brand) for desert. That's pretty much it. I almost never eat fast food (makes me feel yucky), hardly ever drink coffee (last ditch effort to stay awake), generally don't eat any takeout more often than once or twice a month, never eat "candy cereal." I'm 6'2", and I used to weigh 255 lb. at one point, but today I weigh 185. I've learned my lesson about eating too much of the wrong stuff.

Oh yeah, as for how much I eat? Less than most people, I think. I never did have a big appetite (even when I was overweight, it was solely because I ate too much junk and didn't exercise nearly enough), have never been one to stuff myself at Thanksgiving and all that (I hate feeling stuffed and bloated, don't know how some people can do it and enjoy it, it's nothing but discomfort).

Do you think PC gaming influences your eating habbits?

Hmm. Yes. Admittedly, I will occasionally get kind of addicted to a game and won't eat right away when I'm hungry, or don't want to part with the game long enough to make a substantial meal. But that's not very often, and it doesn't do too much to me since I eat enough healthy foods and drink enough water to compensate for it.

Is PC gaming occupying time you may otherwise spend doing more healthier things, like sports or passive exercise?

Heh. Ah, once again we come back to the game addiction thing. Well, I never was a sports enthusiast. But,yes, sometimes I'll get wrapped up in a game too much to get off and do my push-ups, sit-ups, or read a book I'm occupied with, or whatever. I keep telling myself at those times that I need to take a break, I've been playing for three and a half hours for ****'s sake, get up and do something, go finish that chapter you've been putting off or something, oh hell no, you're not even paying attention to me, come on, listen to me, you dumb bastard! Then I go "Wha? You say something? Sorry, I was busy having the time of my life with this game just now..."

Do you think playing PC games has in some way made you more apathetic about your appearance or physical well-being?

Pretty much summed up above. Yeah, a bit, but it doesn't ruin my fitness. I'm a martial artist, so I know how to and need to stay a little fit most times. As a deputy black belt in Tae Kwon Do, I'm obligated to keep my physical condition up a bit to be able to set an example to the younger students and to be able to help my master out.

Plus, I have a job working in a shop that builds booths to trade shows, where companies show their products off to consumers at conventions (similar to how game companies show off their games in their booths at E3, companies like what I work for have to be contracted to build that stuff). There's plenty of hauling plywood and plexiglass around, constant walking around and movement of your body that keeps your muscles working during various other tasks. When clients pay extra to have their booth set up in the shop so they can see it before it gets shipped out, we have to carry around and very carefully put together large, heavy wall panels, get on sixteen-foot ladders or higher and walk 100+ lb. logo signs up to a God-forsaken, 20-something feet-high point with one or two other workers... Anyway, you get the point, my job helps keep me fit.

I find myself pretty healthy. Although I bulked up a few pounds couple years back, today I am still in good shape thanks to taekwondo and being driven into the ground by the teacher cause I am one of his favorite students :P

touch wood I am in great shape, I go to the gym hardcore 3 times a week, play rugby on the weekends. Used to do a fair bit of athletics a few years ago too. I don't touch McDonalds or stuff like that and my meals consist mostly of Tuna, lots of water, and yeah healthy home cooked meals.

There is nothing like being fully pumped from the gym then hitting say BF2 online and killing some ppl while you have real adrenaline from your workoutgoing through your body :D. Oh and keeping healthy is a great way to keep enjoying playing games.

lol. Well, I have the metabolism from hell, so I'm pretty underweight. For the most part though, I don't neglect any one food group. I'm an equal opportunity eater. I wouldn't say that I'm in good shape though, the only "exercise" I get is walking to and fro from the bus stop and the house. I have to say, though, if I got attacked by a band of rapists on the way home I think I could escape. That's all the in shape I need to be.

Well, I am quite obese to be honest. At least technically speaking.:(

But on a more practical sense, I am quite healthy.

Im 6' 3"" and weigh 350 pounds, but I can do eight pullups. nothing great, but quite a feat for me. I take pride in it lol.

I work out seven days a week, and do at least 20 minutes of brisk cardio (usually treadmill on an incline). My usualwork outs then consist of about an hour or two of weightlifting. Right now my maxes are 365 on bench, 65 lb dumbells for seated bicep curls, 485 on squats, and 265 on power cleans.

Sorry, felt like bragging lol

My total cholesterol is good (147, I think thats good) but my HDL is a bit low (my LDL is nice and low, thankfully).

The only thing that concerns me are my knees. I am a cook, so I am on my feet 10+ hours a day. Suffice to say, theyre quite stiff and sore at the end of the day. I think this is worsened by my weight and years of playing american football. And my gut is pretty big, I am ashamed of my tummy :( At least I can beat up anyone who makes fun of me. Just kidding, I am a teddy bear. At least thats what everyone says.

What I do is I'm a student at a college. I work all the time for this summer vacation. I go back to school on January 3rd 2008. So I have like one year of vacation, its very long and dull I'm not doing that again. I got tired of it. But I did go to China to visit a girl. She's hot. Mostly I play counterstrike all summer on my computer until like 1:00 a.m. in the morning.I do eat a lot though. I eat fish, vegetable, proteins stuff. The only Vegetable I eat is the salad lettuce. But after when I play I do go downs stair and get me a cup of water. I eat fruit too. Like apples, grapes, watermelon etc. Anything with sweet fruit. This month I work 7 days a week just because its Christmas time. And the mall is usually busy. Plus I do call china to talk to my gf. These are the games I play on my laptop, pc, xbox360 during this summer. I say I'm pretty healthy

Doom 3. (Beat it)

Quake 4 (Beat it)

Values games (finished and got bored)

Battlefield 2142 (still playing, trying to take out Counterstrike)a

Battlefield 2 (Still playing, trying to take out Counterstrike)

Need for Speed most wanted (Working on it)

Far cry (working on it)

Stalker (working on it)

Gears of war (beat it)

Halo 3 (beat it)

It doesn't hinder me in any way since my 1 hobby that I do more then gaming is paintball. I'm a picture of athletisism! Ok, a bit of an exagguration, but still I'm not your stereotypical fat kid who plays WoW all day and there's a pile of garbage sitting right next to me because I'm too damn lazy to get up or something.

What do you lift that much for, Bojangles? I can understand wanting to maintain some muscle, but do you lift everyday because you need so much strength for something like work, or just because you like to? Maintaining that kind of muscular fitness, and by working out every single day on top of that, would be one heck of a hobby to have, so I'm just curious.

I have to ride my bike from home to school ever day , which is a total of about 15Km . And then back home again :P , i do go out and party hit on girls and drink the booze and beer . I'm no loner , as there's alot of gamers out there that only game . I would manage to do that but i would more likely go out and do something else.

The longest time i've played is 1 day and 8 hours (with toilet breaks) .

Ya, I do it for fun. In seventh grade I took a weightlifting class and I enjoyed it. Then the next semester and during 8th grade I was the gym teacher's TA for the weightlifting class. Then I went to high school where lifting weights was mandatory since I played football. Then during college I was lucky enough to become best friends with a fellow avid weight lifter, so it just turned into a hobby. Whenever I go to visit him or vice versa we always get guest gym passes for each other. Plus I worked construction one summer during school which was good incentive to lift weights. Then like I said before I am a cook and being strong definately helps there, especially when dealing with big boxes of ingredients or intimidating whiny servers.

I just enjoy it, I like the feeling of lifting weights more than actually being able to lift a lot of weight. And I gotta be honest it has stopped some people from fighting me, which is good since I dont like hurting people or being hurt lol.But mostly its because I freaking hate cardio...I figure lifting weights for 1-2 hours is the equivelent of jogging a few miles:P And nothing beats an endorphin high, I swear by it. Its also good for getting rid of your testosterone; Idunno about you guys, but I get really really antsy when I sit around for more than a few hours, and going to the gym really diverts that energy and turns it into something nice and productive. Unless I am really sore or tired, I usually do chores for an hour or two after I am done at the gym.

Its also good for confidence. And for us husky guys, being strong often nets us a foxy lady. Being at the gym at school then having your cute lab partner from biochem walk in and see you lifting weights, then compliments you the next day in class, definatelly does wonders for the confidence. Sadly I am usually too shy to act on that lol

i always wanted to try fencing, is it very difficult?

plus, without animosity, it seems like an "east coast" thing here in the states, I cant think of one place where I have seen fencing except for at college.

I spend on average about 2-3 hours a day in front of my computer, depending on what time of year it is. When I am not going to university I usually spend about 4-5 hours a day (some of which may involve a console or two), depending on what game I am playing or what kind of forum discussion I am involved with.

I myself am a pretty healthy guy. A tad overweight but that is due more to my lack of motivation to exercise then lack of movement. I do quite a bit of movement where I work, just not enough to burn significant amounts of calories and fat.

Well, when I can I do sit behind my PC all the time, although lately my amount of free time has gone down drastically.
I can definatly say I'm certainly not the healthiest person around. However, I dare to say that it's been years and years since I last stayed home because I was sick or somesuch.

As for the types of food, let's just say that you, as cook, wouldn't like me as your son. :P

The amounts and the times I eat are still regular.

I can definatly say that I used to be totally addicted to gaming for years. Now, not so much. I've found that I can easily go out and do other stuff now. However, since I don't really have that much free time anymore, I consider the amount of gaming I can still get to be fine. I've no particular reason why I'd need to go sporting or such, sure It couldn't hurt for me to get some exercise, but I feel that I've got an ok condition as it is. I still ride my bike to school just about every day, about 40 minutes in total every day. It might not be that much, but it's far better then nothing.

I was actually considering going to the gym a while back, but then my friends that went there stopped going just as I was getting interested. A month or so back I tried doing some regular training at home. That got dumped after a week too.
Overal, I've got no issues.

I guess you could say I've got it easy, I was born seriously underweight. And that still shows. It's also pretty weird, I can eat whatever I want, all the time. I don't seem to gain any weight. Back in the day, we used to go eat some ("some", ahum) kebab every day during school lunch break for like 3 months. Combining that with the regular amount of various other candy(which also used to be alot more) I can't recall ever gaining any weight.

Well I play basketball and eat healthy. The demographics are really wild for gaming so you will come across alot of different eating habits. I guess I am not over weight so my diet is pretty good.

If I wasn't playing PC games I would probably be watching tv or eating. So it is good for me, and I exercise in the morning so I still get some exercise.

I eat healthy most of the time, but if I eat couple big macs, I train those extra calories off. I exercise three or four times a week. I'm actually just going to gym. I play sports with my old team mates and we are going to start a division team.
