ive been conteplating whther to get a new lcd monitor or not, and if come across 2 different types of one model

the samsung t240 for $420, and the samsung t240hd for $490
their both the same except the t240hd comes with compenant cable slots and an "ant in" tv cable plug

this would also be an upgrade form the crummy tv im usuing right now, but is basic cable any good on hdtv's?

should i just save the money and go wiht the basic t240 if i dont have "hd channels"?

Depends on the channel really. You get used to if after awhile but the HD channels look sooo much better.

The basic analog channels range from okay to pretty bad depending on the feeds themselves, but they should be much better after the switch to digital. It's never bad enough that it's unwatchable though. My digital cable channels are much clearer than the analog ones lol.

I have a friend that only has basic cable on his HDTV and for the most part it isn't an issue, I mean who really needs to see crappy shows like The Hills in HD. Crap is crap, now it's just clearer. The only thing I think suffers from no HD is sports, that I can't live without.

Its not terrible, but you will notice a difference when youo finally break down and get an HD cable reciever. Going HD is a slipery slope when it comes to the money you will want to spend to take advantage of the higher resolution. If you still want to keep basic, invest in some rabbit ears so you can at least watch your local HD broadcast.

yeah man normal cable and even any satellite t.v. looks like crap, because with way more pixels on an hdtv the voids from the pixels that are not recieved from analog channels just fills in with random colors either that or it just tries to spread the pixels evenly through the screen meaning every channel will look like you are using an antenna that just barely doesn't get perfect reception. I mean it doesn't look HORRIBLE but it looks worse than a notmal tube t.v.

Its Tolerable for the Most part but you will be shocked to see All the Artifacts in SHows you've loved and Hated throughOut the YEars.

I think the WORST LOoking Show I"ve seen on my HDTV for a Few Minutes only is Little HOuse on the Prarie. I Cannot STAND That show and I was Actually watching it because I was Amazed just HOw Bad that SHow's Visual Quality is. DAng! SOmebody hit that show with an UGLY Stick!!!

BUt like that dude said, who really needs shows like THAT in HD anyways.

This will contradict my first post, but who cares. You can borrow my advanced Blu Ray copy of Season 1 if you want. Soooooooo good.

It does come down to your provider.

I just got Fios. SD channels look glorious.

Comcast is down right crappy. never got a good picture with them ever. I don't think the HD channels were HD.
