Just finished Deus Ex and I loved it more than Mass Effect 2 even though it's awesome as well.
The difference being that I now can't go a day without being in the Deus Ex world so I am playing it again, this time with more knowledge and insight due to the first playthrough.
This game has consumed me.
If you are bored AT THE BEGINNING of ME2 then I don't know WHAT game you will enjoy...im bored at tha beginning of mass effect 2..

A game that doesn't involve running around in a spaceship that's on fire.

How is that not awesome?
I'm in the same boat. I'm on my second playthrough right now, 52 hours of gameplay so far and I'll probably finish this one at about 75 hours. DLC can't come soon enough.Just finished Deus Ex and I loved it more than Mass Effect 2 even though it's awesome as well.

Because it was boring...
As a Deus Ex fan I think that many things could have been better in this game, especially some mechanics taken out from the original title. But despite my nitpickings, I have to say Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a fantastc FPS with RPG elements! Buy it and support Eidos Montreal!
Deus Ex: HR's combat is a billion times better than ME2's combat.
The only problem I have with HR is the whole "choice" thing, with sneaking or loud agressive, or lethal or non-lethal, is that one way is just made better than the other. Like you get so much more XP for non-lethal and sneaking, so it kind of makes the opposite approach less interesting or fun in the long run.
Great game, go buy it. BUY IT NOOAWWW
in my eyes mass effect 2 is vastly overrated. give me the slightly broken but much more charming and compelling first mass effect game over the simplified and lightweight sequel anyday.
i'm only about 10 hours into deus ex so cant comment too much on it but so far im loving it. the story, gameplay, rpg elements and atmosphere it creates are all (up to now anyway) far superior to mass effect2

Same here. We need more Cyberpunk universes... or more Deus Ex HR. Bring on the DLCs!Just finished Deus Ex and I loved it more than Mass Effect 2 even though it's awesome as well.

me2 the beginning is indeed a little boring with the spaceship on fire, but i would hang in there, mass effect 2 is a very good game, i enjoyed the first one more because of the planet riding, but the other stuff does mass effect 2 a little bit better.
As for deus ex hr: I played the first deus ex and that was one of the best games i've ever played, the sequel wasn't bad but nowhere near the first one. I'm busy now with human revolution and allthough not as good as the first deus ex it's a lot better than the second one If i would have to compare it to mass effect 2, i'd say for the moment mass effect 2 is a lot better but i'm only busy with deus ex now for a couple of hours so this statement is far from conclusive.
I will continue playing though and i'm looking forward to it.
Taste is hard to discuss, are there other games you really like, then i could give you some more information. At this time it's hard to tell what games you like

This. To the OP, you're basically in the tutorial dude. Give it an hour. I just got done playing other games: FONV, Crysis2, Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast and most recently I'm working on Witcher 2. I took a break from these and fired up my favorite ME2 Shepherd (vanguard) and ran the Legion sidequest against the (minor spoiler) Heretic Geth with Grunt and Legion and man...! When we finished the last mob, strapped our rifles and shotguns back to our backs, I really felt like the leader of a bad-ass sci-fi team of a**-kickers.
The combat is fun, especially mixing and matching the companions characters with theirs and your own. The more frustrating elements you are finding with the beginning of ME2 happened to me in all other games even worse! (Especially Jedi Outcast which introduced me to round-the-corner anxiety. As in "I am having so much fun shooting up these stormtroopers for the last 10 minutes. Why oh why when I round the corner are the devs always sticking another puzzle or dead end?")
ME2 is great. I was thrilled to revist it over the weekend. That's saying a lot because I am absorbed by Witcher 2 right now but still found my 2 and a half or more playthru on ME 2 very rewarding after Grunt, Legion and I's shoot-out!

I will try to give my thoughts aswell :P
ME2 has a great story (but bad ending). I mean the story and the mechanics, were both good, but the lack of feedback from the world, and the action prtty much being rinse and repeat, made ME2 oddly hollow or cold, I could feel just how much everything was planned out before I finished something.
I DO like ME2, tho (prefer ME1) it is as I said before not bad, just WAY too much focus on cinematic moments, as opposed to the gameplay, and very little context given to why things are as they are.
Deus Ex is a different beast entirely. Each of the mechanics are WORSE then ME2, but they play much better together. I like DE:HR alot more then ME2, patly because that despite the very two dimentional characters in the game, they offer me a context I can accept as to why I do things, and the world reacts to my action. The world feels more logical and belivable (well I suppose it is part of what cyberpunk it). And the story and the action fits.
So overall DE:HR simply works better then ME2 did (for me), but when I look at every gameplay mechanic, and piece of story, each on thier own is sub par.
As to the one who asked about DE:HR and how it measures up to Deus Ex, I think I would answer like this: I consider Deus Ex one of the rare near flawless games, and since Deus Ex, only 2 games are games I would consider measured up to it. DE:IW, fell short, and I do not even consider it a DE game.
While DE:HR did not reach what the first game were, it IS close enough that Iconsider it a part of the Deus Ex series with no questions asked, that I do not with IT at all.
So It is fairly close to reaching thefirst game, it falls short, but with so little, that it is a game that I would basicly recommend to everyone, partly becausein this game, you canfeel thedevs love for the game they created, it is not as cold and methodical as most games this gen, everything just feel like it was buildby fans for fans.
