I got good grades in college this semester so i figured i would treat myself to a laptop. Its mainly used for school but a little starcraft is probibly gonna happen with it too. I really do not like mac's because i like the freedom of using all the software that is on the market, also ive been using windows for a long time so it is like the back of my hand. I was stuck between getting a gateway or a dell notebook.

First i looked at the Dell notebook. the 12" xps was nice and i was just about to order it, then i looked at the gateways and checked out the new convertible notebooks. I went with the cx210x, it has all the functions of a regular laptop but the top screen can swivel and rotate around, also if i close it backwards it becomes a tablet pc. It is really cool and useful for school

anyway, the specs of the notebook that i ordered are:

Intel Core 2 Duo (2.00 ghx 667 mhz FSB 4 mb l2 cache)

2gig of 667mhz ddr2 sdram

160 gig harddrive

ati radeon x1400 64 mb graphics with 256 mb hypermemory

double layer cd/dvd burner

vista premium

i dont know how these specs are gonna be but i am hoping it will run Vista with no major issues. Also, the convertible feature of the notebook allowing it to become a tablet pc is something that i think is just so cool and useful

anyway, give me an opinion on the specs and the laptop overall, i personally think its a solid build thats gonna be futureproof to my scholastic needs but nothing lasts forever.

(plus it is fun to plug it in to my 56" hdtv and use the tablet feature to play starcraft with my finger on the screen....i feel like the dude from the tom clancey End War trailor)

its ok for word documents and little stuff like that. But for games I suggest you get a desktop because moblie gpus and cpus are not as powerful as desktop ones. I doubt itll play starcraft 2

That x1400, it will be good for shooting yourself in the foot in a video game not much else. I would highly suggest you get a new video card, remember to treat yourself with overpriced stuff ;)

If you already have a gaming machine at home I'd say you have a good purchase there. Yes, the graphics chipset isn't the top of the line but if you aren't planning on playing the heavy games (Which you shouldn't on a laptop anyways) then it is fine. The whole tablet feature is actually a very neat feature and for school it can help out a lot. I prefer a keyboard to writting on a tablet though but it is user preference. As for Vista, it is kinda like playing Russian Roulette. You might be the lucky sap not to get shot this round but you never know till you pull the trigger. Anyways, congrats on the marks and enjoy your new laptop.

Just remember, purchase something that will make you feel that it was worth it. Don't just purchase on what people tell you to buy here. Trust me, they think you will have deep pockets most of the time.
