I've read mixed reviews from other gamers here. I was going to get it, but Best Buy was sold out! :(

Yes. It is such a unique experience not found in any other shooter. It's dark with a rich atmosphere, it has challenging albiet slow-going firefights, and is completely non-linear. I've yet to finish it, but It's one of my tops for 2007.

Oh, sorry, I thought you hadn't played it. You don't think it's worth $20. I thought it was suposed to be good. About how long is it?

I played it. One of the top 3 games on 07 in my opinion.

I doubt Stalker supports controllers. It'd be too difficult anyways.

With a 360 background, it will be at first. It takes a little time and patience to adjust.

I know that clear sky is going to be dx 10 and the original is only dx9, btw I have played several shooters with a mouse and keyboard, I just prefer a controller.

Well mouse and keyboard is hard at first but the beauty of it is you can customize the controls to your liking. Also mouse>>>Joystick imo.

Could you please but the game already? There are programs to get controllers to work on most games anyway, like X padder.

For $20 you get the most atmospheric shooter experience ever crafted. I'd say its plenty worth buying.

You may not like the level of "realism" the game uses or its harsh difficulty... but if you are a masochist of sorts, you will enjoy the experience immensely. I've got to stop playing so much Doom and get back to finishing STALKER.

I just finished playing through Stalker again this week. I would definitely recommend it, especially if its only $20. The sequel (prequel) is coming out soon too.

It took me 2 months to beat the main campaign, but that's probably not a good indication, since I was going really slowly. There's lots of side quests and funny things to do, instead of the main campaign, so it's quite good value for money, length wise.

For $20.00 it is worth it.

However please make sure you patch it before you play it. (even then there are still a few broken missions) also even though people are saying that is about 20 hours long, it is really about 4-6 hours of awesome story and atmosphere, coupled with about 15 hours of go fetch quests, respawning enemies and map treks which whilst fun at first gets quite tedious after the 20th time.

Though it is purported to be an open sandbox (it actually is to some degree) some areas remained inaccessable until certain parameters are reached. Once they are passed you can travel the map wherever you like, which you will be doing plenty of for the boring "go fetch" quests.

I certainly wouldn't put it in the same class as Halflife 2 and definitely not in the same class as System Shock 2, but for $20.00 it is a good deal. Most of the gaming review sites give it about an 8 out of 10 which seems about right to me.

Out of the games released in 2007 that I've played, Stalker is my favorite. Good atmosphere, good AI, good variation of enemies, good open areas and a good story... just to name a few How long time it takes to beat the game depends on how much time you spend on the side-missions The game is far from perfect, but it is a very unique game You quickly get tired of having to walk great distances to get from one area to another. Also the endless and quick respawning of enemies can get tiresome (e.g. at the entrance to the Red Forrest area there's a military camp. Take out all the soldiers, enter the area, then as soon as the Red Forrest area has been loaded you decide to go back, now all of the sudden it's filled with soldiers and dogs, even though it's less than five minutes since you killed them all) At first glance the world looks alive, but it's all static. It's always the same stalkers at the bar, it's always the same stalkers wherever you see them the first time, etc. Even though it's in the middle of nowhere (a small distance from buildings), they never move, no matter how bad the weather is, even though there's nothing to protect there But I guess that's normal for games with RPG elements. But even though it has some annoyances, it's still my favorite game 2007

MO its outstanding, got a beefy computer? try custom configs (high qulaity + added bloom) add motion blur and this game can be quite atmospheric and unique (yes the good kind of unique too.) Worthy of a buy 4 sure and there are also plenty of mods out there to get your moneys worth. You can peek around corners and great AI as well.

OK, it's very slow to get into. I bought it 6 months ago played the beginning and kept getting killed by radiation poisoning. Someone on these forums suggested I try and find artifacts to help with it. Anyway....

I gave the game a second shot and figured out that some of the artifacts can give you radiation poisoning. I have since got quite far! First underground section section is awesome. You get a very lonely feeling from the bleak landscape, wild dogs and radiation zones, then to have to go underground.....arrggh, it becomes really scary stuff. Without spoiling it all for you, I believe it is both one of the most atmospheric and scariest games ever.

Seriously, there was a part that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up lol. It really gets better the further you get into it. I've now just done the first lab x18 or something. Trust me, if you're a patient gamer, love cold harsh reality in your games along with heavy dose of atmosphere with a scary, dark topping, then get it my friend.

Just persist with the first hour and it soon gets better. :)

the game felt very...broken and unfinished....Really feels like they pushed it out the door because after eight years of Development they weren't ready....All in all though even in this state it is still a good game. I personally think it is worth a buy NOW....but back when I bought it at full price I kind of regretted spending the money.
