I am playing it again and it is still great. Well the graphics are not that great for today, but the whole feeling and the story are still No1! Not to mention gameplay, no game today is as fun RTS as Starcraft.

Agreed. It's really fun, it's cheap and very addictive so definitely worth it. It's not slow, far from it, and I actually like the graphics, although the max resolution is 640*480, if I'm not mistaken, which is a bit of a drawback..

I still play it every so often. It has aged as well as any video game I can think of. As soon as you get a few chapters under your belt, you'll be hooked. The graphics aren't a drawback and it is still a very cool game to play.

theres absolutely no better rts than starcraft, period. Need proof? just look at how many years starcraft has been in WCG, well its there like every year lol, also the only gamers who can make over 300k USD a year just playing a game are the starcraft progamers in SK. these facts alone already say so much about how great this game is, not to mention the game itself...

You won't be abale to find a better RTS around... even the newer ones can't compare to StarCraft. The single player's engaging and the multiplayer will keep you playing forever... and ever... and ever... and ever... plus, it's all free :). And you're sure to find someone (or group of people) to play with since there are I don't know HOW many people still playing online at any given time of day.

If you still don't believe me, look at Korea...

If you're a casual player it's not the best RTS ever. There are lots of games that provide a better game experience. However, if you're really into competitive play, it's the best game out there. The game is SO demanding and the strategies are really diverse. You can ALWAYS get better at the game.

Not if you play UMS (Use Map Settings) which is a great alternative to the competetive nature of the RTS

The game is excellent. Only thing is the resolution is soo low that it seems cramped but other than that i still think it's excellent by today's standards.

Speaking as someone who never really played Starcraft but is very familiar with all the recent RTS's -- the graphics look pretty dated to me. I love Command & Conquer 3 and Company of Heroes. This looks pretty old school compared to those. I notice the flight / motion paths for various units is old school too, straight lines, whereas in Command & Conquer 3 air units do loop de loops strafing and bombing locations. Just another viewpoint.

People act like Company of Heroes is some sort of super realistic and innovative game with its cover, troop AI, armor damage model etc. Yet tons of games had all those things before with better and more complex implemintation.

Anyways I don't remmeber yelling at my units in Close Combat III as often as I do in Company of Heroes because that idiot Sherman driver just turned his rear to the tiger.

It's still good, and hopefully blizz can build upon it with SC2. RTS wise, the only game that ever beat SC for me, was Rise of Nations, I've never had as much fun in an RTS as I did with RoN. I don't know though, I really don't have much respect blizzard anymore after WoW, it was such a cookie cutter MMO, made me sick, I'm thinking they won't do much new other than units with SC2, as well. Though I must admit they are the kings of addictive and fun gameplay, be it diablo, warcraft, or starcraft.

Funny, I've played a million games of Starcraft back in the day, mostly over LAN, and it was lots of fun.

So recently, I played it again with one of the same guys I used to, thinking I'd have just as much fun. But it turned out to bepretty boring, which is kinda sad actually.

Ain't too excited about 2 neither.

OMG. Close Combat III owned. I loved that game.

As to the question. Starcraft is still a very enjoyable game by todays standards. Hell, I clocked Starcraft and Brood War this year. But then again, I love RTS and play a lot of old games.

one of the greatest games i've ever played. graphics might bother you if you're a graphics whore, but the story is amazing, and the gameplay as well. if you buy starcraft, buy the expansion(s) as well. i recommend starcraft and starcraft: brood wars.

then, you'll have something to wait for: starcraft 2.
