Beyond worth it. The best WRPG I've played in the last 5 years, if not EVER. I'm not done with the game yet, about 15 hours in and still on Chapter ! :D So I can't say yet if it's THE greatest RPG to grace the planet. When I'm done, I'm hoping it will be my # 1 all-time favorite PC games. :)
All you need to do is take the story, characters, and the world of the Witcher from the first game and bring that with you when you play TW2. Forget about the weak combat system from the first game, and all its oddities and flaws. Because, quite frankly, The Witcher 2 is a GIANT improvement over the first, in every way imaginable. Totally revamped combat system that is smooth and slick as a baby seal's ass. Needless to say, the graphics are gorgeous. Bountiful of eye-candy. Wonderful and memorable characters to meet, and brilliantly written story and dialogue all come together in this great WRPG.
If you're an RPG fan, and you pass up this game.. you'll be doing yourself a great disservice. I don't care if you have to give up your lap dog for this game. Let them have it, because you'll be engrossed and entrapped in The Witcher Universe once you start the game.
Be prepared to be immersed. Be prepared to not take a shower for a couple of days. Perhaps, even call out from work. Your girlfriend doesn't matter. She doesn't even exist in your mind any more, or even in your train of thought. You'll forget to feed your dog, and it's mindless barking doesn't even resonate with you. Your ears pointy and alert, but directs all its attention to The Witcher 2. Your eyes will bleed in the hours that you wake, from playing long sessions. You might even develop cat-like eyes so you could also play in the dark or twilight. The neighbors wonder of what you're doing and if you're okay. "I'm fine," you said. Let me lift your curse, save your villages from pilage. And romance your whores and of-age daughters. You are the striga! And I am The Witcher... Geralt of Rivia.
9.8/10 - and yes I went there with the extra 3 points. Screw 9.5! It's not worthy!

With TW2 though I actually find myself skipping some of the dialogue. Still the game's worth a try if only for the amazing graphicsistuffedsunnyI'd also like to add that some dialogue choices cannot be opened after you choose another. I was hoping to ask a question that I could come back to but once you choose a specific response, the other dialogue choices are forever closed off. I guess that will be some motivation for you to replay the game I guess.

This game is worth every penny. Just completed my first playthrough and have 15 more to see. Missed couple of sidequests tho. The fun thing about this game is your actions really do matter, cant wait to play it in another way.
I have not played the first game but think i have to buy it. Wished i had played it before the second one tho because i know it will not be as good :(

1. Combat is great, just hard at times for many people. Be sure to utilize everything at your disposal, it wants you to use your potions/spells/swordfighting skills together in unison.
2. Story is confusing at many times, even to people that finished the first Witcher. From what I have seen you can easily play this without ever touching the first. There are a few hints here and there about the first, but you arn't going to be lost because you didn't play the first game, you will be lost because the game throws 50 characters at once at you and expects you to follow along with them.
3. Hmmm, so far very very very few glitches, few times where an NPC might get stuck or something. Havent seen any such glitch that ruined the story though.
Opinions : AMAZING game, first game I have ever pre-ordered in my life that I feel was worth it. (Usually wait for a game to go on a sale, but this was worth it..well..I still got it for $30, but DEFINATELY would warrant a full price)

I agree with this point fully, utilise everything at your disposal.
I liked original dragon age and mass effect 2.should i wait for price drop?
dragonballz4
I don't think you'd be disappointed if you bought it for full price right now. Especially when the full price is less than $50.
And hm, this game is sort of a mixture of those two games (only much better/deeper/more mature than both of them) - it's got the fantasy goodness of DA and the cinematic awesomeness of ME2, so I suppose you'll like it.
I think its okay but after this long in development I expected more polish. You need a beast of a computer to run it and even then there's problems. Some strange design choices like respawning enemies when you load after dying, quick time events. Its not an easy game either. It really throws you in the deep end.I like how Dragon Age 1 really captured the balance between accessibility and hardcore gaming.I hope the other quests aren't as vague as "destroy the nekker tunnels". I don't know if I am going to like it as much as 1 but we'll see.
Lol I was able to play it in Ultra with my Asus laptop, by turning up the GPU to the max (in overdrive)... and then it overheated lol. Oh well. High is good enough.
TailBlood
Yeah I just tried it today on a 6 year old pc, ran pretty well.
Runs great on my system on ULTRA settings and ubersampling off and I dont have a super new computer.
I agree with some of the wierd design choices but unoptimized isn't something I would call this game personally. Only time I had any kind of FPS dip was the begining in the prologue. For how good it looks I thought its ran rather well, hell DA:Origins, Oblivion and The WItcher1 ran worse for me and those look like crap compared to Witcher2.

I'm going to have to say though, that it's about time a game came and requiered everyone to upgrade :P. Last time I saw that was during crysis, back in 2007. I do believe it's not badly optimizied, it's just a raper. I'm positive, those who upgrade to play this game in max, will be able to play bf3 in ultra. Although I already like this games visuals more than bf3, which from a technical perspective is amazing, but from an artistic standpoint... I just can't look at it.I'm going to have to say though, that it's about time a game came and requiered everyone to upgrade :P. Last time I saw that was during crysis, back in 2007. Game doesn't reeally require people to upgrade. If the ubersampling is off, the game runs perfectly fine on mid range systems. Its all about perspective.

Also how can you defend bioware after what they did to Dragon Age? You seem like a disgruntled bioware fanboy who got one upped by The Witcher 2.
posted this in another thread :
for all those still on the fence, buy it. The first game was great, flawed, but great (whether or not it deserved the praise it got is up to you) but the sequel just wins in every way.
are you tired of easy rpgs? Buy witcher 2
are you tired of same old story? Buy the witcher 2
Looking for a deep, very challenging combat? buy the witcher 2. This is a game of "think before you swing that sword, prepare for combat beforehand before engaging the enemy. Understand your enemies by interacting with the world and the npcs.
The only game on the planet with a world teeming with life with unbelievable detail? The witcher 2 (sure the ultima and gothic series did it, but witcher 2 blows them away---new game and all)
Craziest plot twists and plot changes based on your choices----------witcher 2
In short Buy this game. No game is perfect but this is the Best rpg since the glory days.
and the whole needing a top end rig to run the game? not true. There are a few settings in the game only meant for future hardware, just leave them offf, and you are set to go. Nvidia also failed to release new drivers in time during game launch, so download beta drivers.

calm down robert... Just look at his review.. Base his statements, the review was made before he beat the game (10 hrs or less play time), he says the game is easy (obviously must be playing on the wrong difficulty), and the base of his whole argument is good graphics but don't like locked doors, music, script, plot, characters.. Some folks kinda like that.. Seems hundreds of people dissaprove of his opinion.. I'll trust that a bit more then that simplistic review though. Looking at his statements, I personally think Istuff may need to play some more RPGS from the past like Gothic 3, Neverwinter nights etc and then see what he thinks about witcher 2.

Mid range, as in how? Cause I've seen people barely getting 15-20 fps with a 5000+ (ati). Normally games do very well with those cards.Buy it at full price. Its better than both of those games IMO. I cant see any action-RPG fan being disappointed with TW2.I liked original dragon age and mass effect 2.should i wait for price drop?

Nvidia at 1440x900 range with a good duel core runs the game just Fine.. Personally, I tried a e7400, gts 250 at that resolution and it was getting 30-50 fps but settings were mixed.. There is differences for everyone. The game has a huge amount of graphical settings and you must remember people play at all kinds of resolutions. My rig runs it 50-80 fps with everything up but without the ubersampling on.

Don't get this complaining about 580s not running the game well. Turn things off or down until they get their collective heads out of their "bleeps" and release some decent drivers. I'm having no problems running this game on my son's computer (AMD 630 quad/250 GTS 1g/4GB RAM/Win 7 64bt/1680 1050 resolution) at lower settings and it looks great. Probably won't be much better when I get my new DVD/BR R/W installed on my computer so I can install the game on my machine but it will still be very fun.:)
