a 590 on a monitor like that is like using a jumbo jet to go grocery shopping. You can get a lot more bang for the buck with a 580 probably, and save on your power bill and heat output

The 590 is not all it was cracked up to be and I myself would not be going down the dual GPU route due to the compatibility issues that they have with some games. It also does not have double the performance of a 580, far from it. If it did it would be costing closer to a grand. Get yourself a 580, the fastest single GPU on the planet which can max out games for you at that resolution for the next few years and use the money saved to pick up an SSD.

You only want a 590 or HD6990 if you're aiming for a massive resolution, usually on multiple monitors. The top tier single GPU cards are fine for everything else (even my pair of mid-rangers does 1920 x 1080 with no problems).

Forget it, people always want the best there is even though the so called "mid range" cards (you know, those cheap cards that maxes out every single game at 1080P), as many of you call them, already does the job.

Those are all really overkill for your resolution, I would get just a single 6950 flashed to 6970 for now. Then down the line add another.

Get two 6950 in crossfire may be over kill but it will have you set for the next few years, once you get them unlock the shaders and apply the over clock and voltage mod to its running at 880mhz don't flash a 6970 bios as the memory timing are different and can cause damage to your card.
You will have your self a set up better than the 6990 and 590 costing £100 less.

I second this, I'm running a Q9450 at stock at the moment as I have been waiting for the vertex 3 to come out to build a new system. I got myself a 6950 two days ago and even with my system its maxing Crysis 2, Mafia 2 and pretty much everything else I throw at it in 1920x1080 and that's without the shaders unlocked, unlocking the shaders hasn't made much of a difference it shows how good the 6950 is.

6950s in crossfire. At least as good as the other 2 options while costing a lot less, especially if you unlock to 6970s.

well, thanks alot for help, I will go with 2x 6950's ,but I have 2 questions: 1) will it max arma 2 on this resolution(1920x1200) ?( you should know that arma 2 uses only one GPU ) 2) will that system last 2-3 years maxing every game ?

It looks like a good build. If you want a GTX 590 (or any dual gpu card) then go for it. Don't let anyone talk you out of getting what you want. It is your PC not theirs and one of the advantages of PC gaming is that you can pick & choose you components.

i totally agree with thia post, only thing is, it is up to you of what gpu you will want to get, the gtx 590,6990 are great cards but as some of the posters have said only buy them if you are going to be running high resolutions. The gtx 580/6970/6950 2gb are great single gpu solutions also when in sli or crossfire they scale very well also at this point its user preference.

You want price / performance? Get two GTX 460 1GBs.
