for the HDD, i would consider about seagate 7200.10 or WD se16 to have the doubled transfer rate/buffer and they cost almost the same.
For the CPU, if you can afford just to get E2200 especially if you are thinking for some OC even for the future, because you can get the helll out from this but you should conisder about aftermarket heatsink as well. I woulc recommend AC Freezer7 pro for 20 bucks.
Finally, for the VGA. I think having HD 3870 will help you alot for having greater performace and its not that expensive more than your choice.
For the rest, they are great and hope you will enjoy with your new rig.

Overall, it's a great machine for the price. However, that 3850 might not be enough for Oblivion. I recommend getting either a Radeon 3870 or for a bit more, an 8800GT. Both would be good choices. If you're on a tighter budget, then a 3850 will do ok, but Oblivion would probably run better if you get the 512MB version.

EDIT: I see that you're from the UK. Just ignore my Newegg links...

Here you can see how a 3850 would do in Oblivion. It's a great value assuming you play at lower resolutions.

I think you would be able to play oblivion near full, i have a bad comp for that and i can play on medium full res and hdr . u should be fine.

my specs are

2 GB ddr2 800mhz

amd athlon x2 3800+ 2.00 ghz

nvidia 7600 gs 512 may be more ram but much slower core clock.

Buy another CPU intstead, try E4300-E4500 instead, thatoldCPUwill bottle-neck a HD3850.

HD3850 is aprox. same listed as an 8800gts 312mb. in benchmark and 3Dmark06

Thanks for the responses. Replacing some of the components shouldn't be much of an issue, just need to add a little more cash. But the rest would run fine if I were to replace the video card with an 8800GT?

The 256mb version of the 3850 if more than fine for nearly all games until you start pushing up the resolution. If your monitor is above 1280x1024 then you'll start to see some slowdowns, especially with all the settings turned up. If you're playing at lower resolutions you should be fine on nearly everything. As for oblivion I have 2 friends who run it on full at 1650x1050 and neither of them have any lag so I don't really see what everyone is complaining about.
