Go with AMD over intel, it'll save you money and you won't notice any performance difference.

I'm too lazy to shop for you but a 955 quad core, an $80 to $100 mobo from Asus or Gigabyte, and an HD5770 should suffice and save you $300-ish. Also, ditch the sound card and save yourself another $90.

The case seems a bit pricey too, I'm sure you could find one for less (around $40 or $50) wilst maintaining adiquate cooling.

That all seems okay to me..Id personally want a differnt CPU...Like the other fella said, go with an AMD, or try and finddecent deal on an I7..? Either way - this is a solid build...

go AMD to save money and use the difference to get a 5870. You could also just change the motherboard to get the extra amount needed for the 5870.

So unanimously y'all say replace the Intel with an AMD that's equal in value but less pricey. Makes perfect sense if there truly is no difference in performance. One of you says to get a cheaper video card and another says to get a better one. And get a cheaper case. Possibly a cheaper motherboard. Anything else? And thanks for the input. :D

Don't much like fritos. Although I do love Tab and Mountain dew. (internets for people who get this.)

Overclock the crap out of the 5850 and keep the I5. The phenom x2 gets smoked by the i5 in gaming; no need to force yourself to upgrade the CPU when it becomes insufficient for cpu dependent games. When you want to upgrade the video card then add a 5850 later; at least then you won't be bottlenecked in games with the i5.

Yeah we're not talking about the phenom x2, we're talking about the Phenom II x4, and no he is not going to notice any difference between gaming with an i5 or a Phenom II x4. Statements like yours are sensationalized BS. Though I may have to use it some time because it is good troll bate.

Get a cheaper casing and a (slightly) cheaper motherboard. You can ditch the sound card too unless you have very expensive speakers. And make sure to connect the rig to a decent 1080p monitor cause otherwise all this power is gonna go to waste. :P

Phenom II X6 isn't that expensive either for 6 cores...

Yet the phenom x6 is worse than the x4 in games; why? Well, if the game isn't optimized for more than 4 cores than the higher lantency = lower performance per clock than the x4. I5 is the better gaming CPU over both the x4 and x6.

The i5 is more expensive, though. One would expect more performance out of a three hundred dollar chip than one at half the price, the Phenom II X4. Some people on a budget would rather pay less for slightly reduced performance than shell out twice as much, imo.

I agree, and I would also stress "slightly reduced performance" becasue whether you go i5 or P IIx4 both are powerful enough that it is the videocard which is going to make or break the deal, not the processor.

i5 is waste in my opinion. The extra money you are spending could go toward a hefty upgrade in the videocard department.

Well if price isn't an issue, the i7-980 is my rebuttal. But I believe most people on a budget--I do say most, though some people may disagree-- would choose AMD over Intel because at the end of the day, all that matters is getting the job done.

The 750 is a great CPU, not sure why recomending the ph2 965/955 make much of a diffrence they're just $40 off, not that big diffrence in a $1100 build. The motherboard is $180, all to expencive could be one for like $120 instead, that save $60!

Yeah, I pretty much agree with the Facepalm response...There are devices called 'Headphones' that have become popular in the past decade or so . :P

With 1200$ you can go AMD and max out every game out there.I would choose:

CPU: AMD PHENOM iix4 965 3.4 Ghz

Mobo : Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5

GPU : ASUS EAH5850

Yhe rest are up to you...
