I am about to build my first computer on the weekend and i am wondering how long does it usually take. I know i should not rush it but i am wondering. Please dont include shipping time or OS installing time either. Just include the time it took from you opening the hardware box to the time you put on the case cover and pressed the power button only to hear the harmony the computer makes. If your computer did not start and you had to fix it include that time as well.

Thanks.

In terms of actual assembling, I usually take around 2 hours to about 3 hours.

If I'm building a computer for myself it usually takes a few hours. I'm get too side tracked with all the new hardware I'm putting together. I take time to observe the hardware, what came in the package, study the packaging, study the manual. Like when I bought 2 HD 4870s, I took one out and just thought "Wow this card is a beast", took a close look at everything, opened up the second one "Wow this is a beast too", but them side by side "Holy crap I have 2, this is gonna be so awesome!". Then when it's all together I take a lot of time to make sure the wires are nice and tidy.

My last build took me maybe 2-3hours. Spent more time on the cable management than anything else I think :P And yeah turning it on for the first time and seeing it successfully boot up is an awesome feeling.

reading the motherboard instruction manual while carefully looking at all the components, and repeating to make sure since it's the first time = 1.5 hrs

Actually assembling the components = 30 minutes

first time I'd say around a few hours, but once you know what your are doing half an hour or less. It tends to take longer installing all your software than putting it together.

My first time building a computer took me about 4 hours, including installing the OS. It took me an hour to get my big heat sink on with the push pins though.

Took me about 3-4 hours, going slowly and carefully, I reckon if you had to rush it you could do it in 2. Don't rush it though, be methodical and neat, you will enjoy the experience and the result! Have fun!

depends on how much room the case gives you. screws or click system?

if it's all easy to reach you can do it in about a hour.

it's realativly easy as the parts only fit in one way.

the only hasstle you can have ae the small wires of the power switch and leds ( but that also depends on the case )

for the guys saying 3 to 4 hours is that with toilet breaks or something ???

I mean i have my system build and windows installed in that time

oh those good old push pins. they are terrible. Intel should take something out of amd's book and get a decent heat sink installation. amd heatsinks take 20sec to install every time.

Can't do that, then it's just another thing for AMD fanboys to cry that Intel stole! Kind of like dual-core, hypertransport, integrated memory controller etc..!

In fact, the rig in my sig took me far longer. I had to do it over the course of two days because there was a hardware defect. It took me forever to figure it out, but I found that the problem was a bent CPU pin on the motherboard so I bent it back and tada! the computer worked. That took a total of about..... 7 hours of my life away.

Same. Like someone just said, the longest part was the cable management, and I had a big case to work with which is great. (Kudos to CoolerMaster). Putting the actual components, installing the OS, etc. is the easiest, less time-consuming part. I just did it a couple days ago and am very satisfied.
