How long do you think quad cores will be required for gaming?

Assassin's Creed requires a dual core, could this be a sign of things to come?

Requires? I doubt that. It'll probably run a lot better on one, but I seriously doubt it's required. We probably won't see quad-cores as a minimum requirement for 5 years.

Probably not for a while longer. Plus there are not many games that even take advantage of quad cores yet.

Pretty much. The technology is so new, and the games are a bit behind on using it. I would love to see more games that took advantage of the dual core processors first.

I don't think we will see that for a long time, if ever. From a development standpoint, it is quite difficult to get a significant performance boost from multi-thread/core processors because there are only so many things that you can throw off onto different threads and some things must be done on a single thread.

Moores law states that volume of transisters on a cercuit board will double every year...

I reckon quad cores will get replaced by something better and less clumsy.

I think it will take a bit of a shaking up on the game development side before they start using that computing power. Right now the industry is VERY GPU driven and on all but the most cpu intesive strategy games will always bottlneck on GPU first.
