Q6600 (not OC'd)
4gb ddr2 ram
5770
Corsair 550 watt PSU
Acer Case
Acer mobo

How long can this last until I need to buy a new PC? BF3 & Skyrim's specs haven't been released yet but I'll probably end up buying a new card during winter break along with those 2 games. I want to run them at max settings, No AA & some AF at 1680 x 1050. This PC can run crysis at ~30 FPS on gamer + enthusiast shaders at my native res. Would it be worth it to just upgrade the card as thats about all I can upgrade now (mobo has 4gb limit and is ddr2 only). I'll probably have enough money after working during summer break for a new pc but I'd rather save it and buy only what I need.

To max them you'll probably want to overclock your CPU and get a new Video Card. While certainly not a bad card I have a feeling the 5770 won't be able to max BF3 at that res. And the game is definiatly gonna want a fast Quad so at the very least your gonna want to overclock the CPU to at least 3.0GHz which is very doable

All you really need to do is overclock your CPU. You should be able to get that Q6600 to 3ghz or higher without too much trouble. A 5770 is still a very decent GPU, but it wouldn't hurt to get a 6870 or better to make sure that you have enough grunt.

Overclocking the CPU will add some more life to it. Upgrading the GPU will also help. You should buy another 5770 or upgrade to at least a 6950.

I can recommend 5770CF. It runs near enough anything at high detail at 1920 x 1080 with no problems.

You're fine for awhile. Keep in mind that most games are multiplatform games designed with the consoles in mind, and you're way ahead of the consoles. I've contemplated doing a major upgrade myself, but I think I'm going to hold off until the next generation of consoles is released, which could be another two or three years.

By then you could be quite a bit behind in the CPU department

I'll upgrade my CPU when something other than BFBC2 utilizes a quad core. I'm not upgrading for one game, just like I don't buy consoles for one game. I waited a long time to upgrade to a dual core too. I didn't get one until 2007.

I was on a Pentium D until 2009. Trust me. I know all about waiting

till games start to lag. Wait until games don't run well then upgrade. No point upgrading when games still run fine.
