Throughout this year without much problems. Next year though, it'll be an entirely different thing.

when your hardware goes obsolete is a hard one to say, imho its obsolete the moment you open it, but hey thats me. as far as when to upgrade, thats all on you, heck i am currently running a amd sempron 3300+ @ 2.0 ghz w/ 2gb ddr, and a nvidia geforce 6200 8xagp card... and i can play unreal tournement 3 on it decent, so yeah, but i am gonna upgrade to a new pc after taxes come in.

Most games dont even use the capabilities of a dual core processor still to this day. Look at crysis, it was designed for a dualcore processor and it has been under huge scruteny for what it requires. And it effected there game sales because the majority don't even have that hardware. I spent a thousand dollers to be able to play it. So the anser is It will be ok for a couple more years because Im sure game developers have learned a great deal from Crysis. Most developers want to be able to sell to the majority. Thats why they like making games for console. Everyone has the same harware.

Crytech is making huge $$$ with the engine, not the game (that sold very well in Europe btw)

How do you think it would have done (sales) if they would have supported just on more series of video cards. and just one core processor. NOT SAYING THAT THE GAME ISNT OPTIMIZED VERY WELL Mabye the best optimized game of all time. But just one core and more vid card support mite be asking to much. but they would have done better if they did. That was my only point.

i'm already finding the x2 4200 becoming obselte (of sorts) even though the x2 4200 can still play new games, I suppose you can't to play games on max settings (and eventually medium) because the processor bottlenecks the GPU isn't that already the case with the 8800 series for instance? so even though the CPU can just about keep up with the games, really the CPU can't keep up with the GPU? hmm..
