I'm just curious how many people still game on the older versions of windows.

Still running vista, sadly. I'm waiting for my HDD to die though before I upgrade, because I don't want to do it until I absolutely have to :P.I'm just curious how many people still game on the older versions of windows.

Kinda wish I had just saved my cash and stayed on Vista, dont get me wrong Win7 is nice...but in reality its not really much different.
I'm trying to hold out as long as I can before buying a new computer, though I would really love to get or build a powerhouse of a PC. But alas, the sensible side of me says my current computer still works, so why upgrade. Dell makes some long-lasting laptops. It's their fault!
Still running Vista here, with XP on my Laptop (old Lappy)
I've had no problems with Vista, and see "upgrading" to W7 as more of a waste of money, for me
I know alot of ppl that had issues with Vista simply didn't have the hardware to run it properly, so blamed everything on vista, when it was in fact their fault (or the company they bought it from, alot of low end computers had vista on them when they should not have)

[QUOTE="ch5richards"]I am running Vista and actually prefer it to Win 7. Nothing big, just personal preference really. That and little things like no sidebar in Win7, and you can't drag folders off the side of the desktop to make disappearing "tool bars". They are both solid OS'es though, both better than XP IMHO.Captain__TrippsThere is a sidebar in windows 7, maybes its diff than vista I can't reminder exactly how it worked. The gadgets just arn't "contained" within a sidebar like in vista I don't really see that as a reason not to use w7, I dont even use it. I probably wouldn't be using windows 7 if I didn't get a free copy though.
Like I said it is a personal preference.
And yes Win7 has gadgets, but no sidebar to contain them. They just sit anywhere on the desktop. Which is OK, except I have become accustomed to having my sidebar sitting there on the side of the screen while I surf the web. The weird thing is Vista and Win7 are so similar that you can take the sidebar files from Vista and transfer them to Win7 and then you can have the sidebar like Vista, or at least that worked with the RC.
A lot of people don't use the sidebar or the folders dragged off the desktop, but I do and like them both. So the way I look at it is why pay to "upgrade" to roughly the same OS with less of the features that I like.

The gadgets do "stick" to the side of the screen... I'd rather be able to put the gadgets anywhere I want them rather than just in a sidebar, but then I don't use any gadgets. Lol.[QUOTE="ch5richards"][QUOTE="Captain__Tripps"] There is a sidebar in windows 7, maybes its diff than vista I can't reminder exactly how it worked. Lol.What i like about the sidebar is that it takes up the last inch or 2 of the side of the screen and my browser just butts up to it. I am pretty sure the gadgets alone would just get covered up.
Here is a pic to show how I have my sidebar setup. I have just a regular clock and calendar, but I also have a weather gadget, an Everest gadget, and gadgets to monitor my network usage and other useful stuff.
I like the sidebar, i know I am in the minority, but for me it is great.
I got off Xp as fast as I could. I really disliked it, especially coming off a Linux distro after using XP for a year when I got into computers. I really preferred Vista over XP for features. I didn't have have even HALF the problems people whined about with Vista. It was all old drivers and software that caused most of the conflicts. I love Windows 7 though.
Currently using Vista, I want Win7. But i don't feel like dishing out $200 for it.deadxsoulsHonestly, save you cash.

i use vista cause it was the best option at the time. i'm very much used to it now and really see no reason to upgrade, in fact i'm not even so sure you can really call it an upgrade. or in other words, a retail copy of windows 7 costs too much compared to the advantages i'm expecting it will bring me. i'll probably stick with vista until i build a new pc which i'm thinking will be at least 2 or 3 years from now.
My netbook and laptop have Win XP. My desktop has Win 7. For what I do on a daily basis, it doesn't matter which I use.

since I have vista 64, upgrading my pc to 7 would just be a waste of time and money.
I am building my gf a new rig soon, I will put 7 on it, since I have to buy a new OS anyway for it. (it is the current Windows for the moment)
I will hold off on building me a new rig (and just upgrade my current one) until a new Windows OS is out.
If I wasn't able to get Win7 Ultimate for $25, I'd most likely still be on XP. (Moved to Win7 about two months ago). I know that may sound a bit odd considering the money that has gone into my PC, but XP was doing everything I wanted to do. In saying that, I do like Windows 7 more than XP.C_Rule
How did you get such an expensive OS for that cheap? Discount or you knew somebody?
Well IMO xp is the still most dependable of the lot when it comes to compatibility in games.
It plays all of the older games and plays the recent games with minimum fuss(barring some like Just Cause 2 and a few microsoft games). You don't get Dx 10/11 compatibility wiith it. that's that.

Exactly, some games won't work on XP or are not supported and I bet most new games won't work either. XP is obsolete and ugly too.
Currently running with Windows 7 64-bit on my system. It's definitly a good OS, though i could still be content with using XP, as it still offers good gaming compatibility. XP uses up lower resourses as oppsed to Vista and even 7, so it makes it a great OS for those with light gaming rigs that don't want the majority of their memory being hogged up by the OS.

I don't really care too much about any UI additions, but more about a more stable OS to work with. I mean sure there were always be crashes and such, but I shouldn't see windows explorer having to restart itself several times after start up and things like that, like I do with Vista.
The core of Windows 7 is still Vista, but it's definitly been improved.:)
