I just bought a new computer,

Here is my specs:

POV 8800GTS 660/1000 320MB

Nforce 650i SLI

E6600 2.4ghz

2GIG DDR2 800mhz

410GIG HDD

I am wondering how much I can overclock my E6600 to??? What is the average temperature for my processor should be?

Any suggestion???

BTW, I am using only the stock cooler for my processor.

you really don't need to overclock the E6600 is a great processor thats better than all ofamds x2's at stock settings overclocking it won't do much in improving performance considering you could probaly play any game out there now on max

IMO it could reatch 3.0Ghz BUT it would then require aftermarket cooling, If i were you I would have gone with a E4400 or E6320 those two can go from 2.0/1.8 to 2.6 on stock cooling and easily hit 3.0Ghz on aftermarket :)

You can hit 3.0-3.2GHz on stock cooling.

There is no need to overclock this processor; you probably shouldn't do it.

What you could do is drop the multiplier on the processor down to x7 (stock is x9), and raise the FSB to 400 (should be doable on most 650i boards) so you can run your RAM at that nice 1:1 ratio. That would give you a 2.8GHz clock speed, and your temperatures should not go above 50c under load.

Thanks a lot for the info!!!

But I have another problem for the processor!!

I downloaded PC Wizard 2007 and when I check my CPU settings it only say that the clock frequency is at 1.683ghz!!!!!!!!!!

How is this so? Even CPU-Z says the samething!!!!

Is my processor broken???

Please Reply!!!

That's because your processor downclocks itself when not in use. Run an instance of SP2004 or Prime 95, or just do anything that puts a decent load on your processor, and the clock speed will spike back up to 2.4GHz.

Does your processor does the same thing?? Does it reduce performance for game when it does that????

BTW, How do you post pictures in gamespot??

Yes, my processor does the same thing, it's perfectly normal. Load up your processor, and watch CPU-Z show it jump up to its rated speed. This will not affect performance, unless your processor is having some serious problems with the Speedstep technology (and this would more than likely cause several other things to go wrong as well.

Unless you get your E6600 past 3.2GHz on stock cooling, I doubt anyone is going to require a screenshot to believe you.

A sticky?

I tried adjusting my FSB to 400 in the BIOS just now and I turn the multiplier to x7 and I ratio the memory speed to 1:1, but after I saved the setting and restart my computer, I get this annoying beep and my computer just go blank and ask me to restore the BIOS setting to normal. What have I done wrong??

You may have pushed your motherboard too far, or your RAM isn't rated to run DDR2 800 speeds at the stock 1.8v. Reset your CMOS jumper if you have to (it should be clearly labeled in your motherboard's manual) if you haven't got your machine to properly boot already. If you have, double-check to ensure that your RAM is rated to run DDR2 800 @ 1.8v - if it isn't, change the voltage to whatever the RAM recommends. If that does not allow your machine to boot, you can lower your multiplier to x6 - however, this will leave you at the stock 2.4GHz speed, although your RAM will at least be running at a 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio. If it still doesn't boot, you'll have to do things without the 1:1 ratio (which isn't a big deal). Your stock speed is an FSB of 266, with a multiplier of x9. Slightly increase your FSB speed (Your first jump should be up to around 280 without any problems), and keep pushing it 5-10MHz after that.

Do not bother tweaking PCI frequencies.
