With all that the Steam folk have said and their linux port, do you think there's any possibility that linux would be the new Windows for gamers? Right now Mac games run slower in general and aren't really given priority. Would Windows become like that? I personally can't see it happening given that most people use Windows. I like Windows 8 so I dont even know why linux should be brought up.

I'd dump Windows in a heartbeat if there was a viable alternative.

Same. Linux isn't nearly supported the way Windows is, so there's absolutely no point in using it.

Like I said, once there's a VIABLE ALTERNATIVE I am gone. I do find it comical how you get so overly defensive whenever anyone criticizes Microsoft.

On a brighter note, at least most consumer seem to have a clue. Windows 8 is selling slower than Microsoft's last lead balloon,Vista.

Unless Linux becomes a household OS, it will never happen. The time and money it would take to port/develop games for an OS that the "common" user doesn't operate wouldn't be beneficial at all.

Then ur using Windows wrong cause I have no issues working or playing games on Windows. It's the most complete OS out there, accept it, even if it's got it's own share of Blue Screen problems and other things. I'm sure if there was a viable alternative, you would jump like a happy girl to it, then 6 months down the track start complaining about that OS as well. Nothing is perfect, just enjoy what you have cause I'm sure as hell you're not posting this from a Linux box.

I would use linux is gaming was well supported. I'm not very confident it will be even half as good as PC gaming in 5 years though.

I don't have problems with Windows specifically other than Windows 8 is a bloated POS. My problem is with Microsoft in general. They're scumbags in the truest, most etymological, sense of the word.

A happy girl? Really?

I'm sure if Microsoft went under you would be jumping up and down like a school girl, or am I wrong? Windows 8 is fine, I don't see a problem with it apart from the fact that some Metro Menu functions are not mouse optimized. Bloated? with what? Windows 98 came with more stuff. And the company is scumbag? lol....welcome to the real world. Tell me a company that isn't after the money?

To be fair, when Windows Vista came out, XP had been out for so long that people were looking for a new Windows OS. With Windows 7, everyone wanted to get away from Vista, so people jumped to 7. With 8, well there really isn't a big reason to jump, 7 is the best version of Windows so why would someone upgrade?

Linux will need a serious or several serious backers, before it becomes a alternative to Windows for gamers. For now we don't need it, since Windows is still an open platform, but some aspect of Windows 8, like the windows application store, are disturbing and could be MS first step to close the platform like IOS. I hightly doubt this will happen though, Windows 8 not so great result will send a clear message, I hope.

i think it's funny people are saying they are ready to jump windows if you are ready to jump, go use any linux distro, see if you like it. i remember one of my CSE profs said he would never hire anyone who only used windows because it shows lack of interst in technology i agree

The MS Store is for the tablet and RT version of Windows. MS will never make Windows a closed system, that's suicidal since there are so many companies that make software for Windows. I can't believe people actually are worried about that only because MS decided to create a Store to compete with Apple. As for Linux, the problem is that there is no real "company" behind Linux, there are several different people that create different versions. It will never become mainstream like that.
