CPU $240

motherboard 180

hard drive 60

dvd drive 24

CM 690 Case 80

Prolimatech Megahalems 90

Fans 40-50 ish

Dual 4890's 450 ish

750w power supply 130

20 inch monitor 120

-----------------------------

Then, upgrades:

Titan Fenrir 60

Venomous X-RT 70

1TB Hard Drive 90

128GB SSD 220

Gelid Icy Vision cooler 70

G.Skill ECO 4GB DDR3-1333 CL7 100

HAF 922 Case 100

Silverstone Raven 2 Case 240

Asus motherboard 110

Two 480's 1000

Blu-Ray drive 90

1000w power supply 180

CPU waterblock 80

Roughy $1200 to $1300 including tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, desk, and chair. It's tough to calculate the exact amount since I did some trading along the way.

I paid:

CPU: $65

RAM: $100

Mobo: $80

Video card: $200

HDD: $130

Case: $100

PSU: freebie

OS: freebie

ext HDD: $100

.

I spent roughly $775 on my current hardware. That doesn't include the cost of older hardware I replaced.

Total spent this year? $190 in early Jan on my HD 6850. Can't wait to upgrade my CPU but I'm waiting for Bulldozer to arrive.

Initial build was $700 in 2009 and I've dropped probably an extra $200 into it since then.

All I need now is a videocard upgrade and I'll be set for a while.

Yeap Ive swapped all my old hardware with my current setup. Luckily where I live I can sell my used stuff for the same price as new in the US and in some cases a little bit higher. Thats how I can keep the process going :D , for example I just bought a new 6970 for $360, I plan on selling my 5830s for $200 each here in Venezuela. And trustme theyll go like hot bread.

This isn't going to be pretty:

Prebuilt PC w/ monitor (Feb 2009): $1200
Extra RAM: $70
Gaming mouse: $70
Replacement hard drive: $30
External hard drive: $60
Replacement graphics card: $180
2nd card for Crossfire: $180
Replacement PSU: $80
Replacement monitor: $200
Replacement tower: $200
Keyboard: $100
SSD: $100
Replacement graphics card: $500
Replacement PSU: $90
Another hard drive: $50
Replacement CPU cooler: $30
Replacement mobo (Feb 2011): $380

So, in all about $3500 over a 2-year period. The only things left from the prebuilt are the i7 and 3GB of RAM. Kinda puts things into perspective for myself about how much I actually invest into this hobby. But at the moment I'm finally satisfied with my current build.

Motherboard --- £69 --- (ASUS P5QL)

GPU --- £156 --- (GeForce 9800GTX+)

Hard drives --- £45 --- (WD Caviar Black 640GB, WD Caviar Blue 160GB)

CPU Cooler --- £25 --- (Zalman CNPS7500AlCu)

Monitor --- £159 --- (LG Flatron L225WS)

Sound card --- £69 --- (M-Audio Audiophile 2496)

Case --- £45 --- (Antec NSK4000)

OS --- £90 --- (Windows 7 Home Premium)

Wireless card --- £30 --- (Linksys WMPN600N)

DVD burner --- £14

:o I had no idea I'd spent so much on it. And that's not including all the other parts I bought but subsequently replaced. The system I could get now for £997 would blow my current rig out of the water. :(

Well in the past year, I've spent 350 on my gtx 570, and the 250 on two 90gb SSD's. That's $600 in a matter of 1 week though. Before 1.5 years ago, I had an e6750 core 2 duo, with an p5ne-sli mobo, crap ocz ddr2 ram, and a 500watt psu and the raptor x drive. And then I upgraded to the Phenom II x4 940BE, faster G.skill ram, GTX 260 core 216, 750 watt PSU and crosshair ii formula, and a tt eureka case. I think I paid about $190 for my cpu, $80 for the ram, $230 for the mobo, $180 for the raptor x, $130 for the case, $75 for a second HDD 750gb, $70 for an external HDD 500gb, and $60 for the PSU totalling $1015 (+ what I have done recently puts me at $1685).

my initial pc was about 900 about 3 years ago. i don't remember how much some of the stuff was, but i probably spent over 1k. i'm currently building a new one and once that build is finished, it'll cost me about 2k. i know that's a lot but i'm going completely overkill and trying to make it as futureproof as i can. already bought a third hard drive and an i7 2600k, i video edit and stuff like that so the i7 2600k if the better choice for me. i hope going overkill will stop the constant bsod's im getting. 9 in the past 6 days is pretty annoying.
