My 8800 512 is about on its last leg so I was thinking of a 4870 but I only have about 2 inches to spare. How much longer is it?

Should only be an extra half inch. I went from a gts 512 to a hd4890 and my case isn't very big and it was fine, tight but fine.

Thats good to hear. I just did not want to settle for a minor upgrade like a 4850 or GTS250.

Should be plenty of juice. Just be sure it has the 2x6pin pci-e connectors.

Agreed... I bought a 700 watt a while ago...had only 1 pcie connector...I had to go out and buy another one, wasted 100 bucks :(
