Hi guys/gals,

I have an HDTV 32" LG LCD screen :D, i use it as a display for my PC games. I have my TV set at res 1360x768 (or something to that effect) and my PC res is set to the same. Also, in-game i normally set the game to the same res as my TV's.....are you with me? :?

All in all my PC rig is the bomb-bay (IMHO- check my blog for its specs) and the resolution is stupidly clear and precise to ever pixel.

You guys with resolutions at 1920x a bajillion, how much clearer is this? Is the character popping his head outta the TV or what???lol.

Im very happy with my setup but was just wondering. Also - is my logic in the first paragraph what i am supposed to be doing in terms of maximising my viewing/graphical experience in re to setting the res on my TV to the same in the IN-GAME settings?

Please advise

Thanks

I have a 19" Sceptre LCD Widescreen. It runs at 1440x900 but I wish I would have gotten a smaller screen. The resolution is putting some serious dents into my framerate and game speed at some parts. I guess I'm too spoiled to go to a lower resolution after seeing everything look so good.

Well this is the thing. After viewing in 1360x768, i HATE going back down to 1024. Although some games look better in the latter resolution....so its a bit of a toss up. CAN I ASK A QUESTION:

If i changed settings in game to 1024, should i change the res of my tv to 1024 also?why is this if this is true? Faster framrate, so the pixels are scanned quicker?

I was just reading the optimization article on the homepage. It said something about the GrafCard having to process more pixels for higher resolutions causing the choppy framerates. Personally, I don't mind downgrading my resolution, what I do mind is my game looking warped on my widescreen monitor.

I really don't think it matters on your TV as far as game processing goes. You could get PC->screen lag I suppose but it's very doubtful. I would change the resolution on your TV anyways to avoid resolution warping.

I prefer my 1280*1024, the extra vertical pixels help a lot, only in gaming or watching something is a widescreen better.

800x600 sucks a hole. Well maybe not that extreme but if you display in 1024 and then go o 800, you notice the difference big time. So much sharper and crisp.

The only problem I have with 800X600 is the fact that my games look streched out and "fatty" on my monitor.

as much as you can get. Ill tell you, playing FEAR at highest reso 1800xsomething with AA one like 8x and all settings maxed its like being in a 3d world, you get mind raped and its nuts especially if you got a bit of alcohol in you or drugs hahah, yep cant beat max reso, the only time ive played 800x600 was when i was hardcore into CS tourneys and what have you, and that was because it made the hitboxes bigger, making the chance for a hit increase by almost too much haha

I know that feeling, but still I still if it fixes some problems I don't mind (like playing CoD2 on FX5200).

Does anyone know f games in general "adapt" in the video settings to what resolutions your tv/3d card can handle? I have an 8800GTS and like stated my TV goes upto 1360x768, so in my case will the settings in a game ie FEAR have a drop down menu with 1360x768 as max? And likewise, if someone else has a 1800xwhatever will that be the max in their game's video settings?

If that makes sense :?

Most modern games do. If they don't just change the ingame settings.

I run at 1680 X 1050 on a 22 in wide screen.  I used to run 1280 X 1024, and you can really tell the difference. For widescreen gaming, the newer games usually have the resolution choices.  However, for older games, check this page out on how to set the resolutions.  http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php/Master_Games_List_-_A

I actually had an issue with one game cant remember which now. I set the res to 1360x768 in game and the screen flickered and i guess wouldnt accept it and reverted to the 1024 res. Why is this? My tv is 1368x768 max. Odd.

After my recent upgrade I'm running games in 1280x1024 and it looks so much better than 1024x768 which I've been using like forever.

It's just how a lot of LCD TVs are built. Most  LCD TVs use that native resolution from what I've seen.  I'm running 1440x900 (19"Wide native, 22"Wide is 1680x1050) for a while to see if I should invest in a larger panel. Originally, this monitor was for my 360, but after playing games in widescreen I can't see how I'd return to 5:4.

However, the jump from 1440x900 to 1680x1050 could prove to be a bit painful when it comes to video card investments.

When u say "native", do you mean the max res capable for that TV?

hdtv's are not the best choice to use for your pc, consoles yeah, but not pcs.

Monitors like 30" dell (not giving best example here, just an example) support resolutions of 2400+ @ 16:9, way beyond hdtv

[QUOTE="3abden"]If 800X600 will run the game faster and smoother I don't mind...anandram

800x600 sucks a hole. Well maybe not that extreme but if you display in 1024 and then go o 800, you notice the difference big time. So much sharper and crisp.

Actually some games seem to be very well optimized and can run 800x600 maxed out at a small visual penalty.

Games like Far Cry, Stalker, and Juarez actually run really well on 800 x 600 and seem to be pretty clear. Yea they aren't as nice as 1360x768 but the gain in framerates for me is worth it.

However, you really need to make up your mind and not second guess yourself. I used to be really OCD about resolution and AA etc...Just play the game and enjoy it. If you can deal with 12 fps on 1360x768 then play it that way. I can play either way but lately if the visual penalty isn't too bad I'll play at 800x600

Of course this is on a 37" HD TV so 800x600 looks alot nicer then on a 19" monitor especially since I'm sitting 10 feet away. Maybee thats the key. Sitting further away obviously will make the game look better. A Monet like effect. My HD TV doesn't support full screen 1024x768 which is another reason I run 800x600...Â
