I've been wondering this for a time, I ordered a PC from amazon (on its way now) and I was wondering if it could max every game that I put into it, in my opinion: it can, since i've already looked for several videos of the games running with the graphics card (ati radeonhd 6850) and the processor (in some cases, the processor was not even close to mine) but all of them had 8 gm ram ddr3, and my PC has 4gb ram ddr3.

most games i've seen ask for 3gb-4gb ram for RECOMMENDED settings, but I dont know much about requirements...anyway would you say it can max it with 4gb ram? in case you wonder my monitor's max res is 1280x1024 although im soon planning to get one with 1650x950

A minimum of 2GB is a must, but if you want to fully max it out, then I'll also go with 4GB.

4GB but I suppose its subjective on what it is you wanna do, gaming 4GB MAYBE 6GB if you wanna be sure. But in 90% cases you will be ok with 4.

Ya, you should be able to run everything at least on really high settings. I don't really know what other people considering maxing, but you won't be able to force 8xAA or more on every game you have. It'll still look amazing though.

When the new consoles hit, 8gb will be a must for gaming?

4GB is more than enough. If you really want to know yourself, just open up your task manager and it will display how much RAM you are using. Of course, have your game booted up already. When I play BFBC2, I have winamp running in the background, and I have plenty of RAM to spare. The only time I experienced issues was when my PC for some reason did not completely shut down Firefox and a bunch of other programs and it froze my game. If your game randomly freezes during gameplay, and resumes, that's usually a sign that there isn't enough memory. Long story short, 4GB is PLENTY for gaming. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

Doubt it, seeing as how PC is already ahead of consoles by a large margin and we only need 4GB for gaming. If anything I would say 6GB at the 'most." 8GB is a stretch.

No way. PC games. Alot of pc games aren't using more than 1.5 gb of ram at this point in time. Alot are less.

4gb is the sweet spot, but you can easierly get away with 3gb. But we aren't going to see any major jump in requirements till probley 2014-2015. Then i would expect a jump, but it depends on how powerfull the consoles are, and if devs what to put in the captial to use the power

If you were to build a brand new computer, I'd recommend 6gb for a little bit of future proofing, but right now 4GB is enough. The only time I've run out of ram at 4 GB was when there was a memory leak. I don't run a lot of extra services though.

Sometimes 2GB isn't enough, even though thats normally whats recommended. Unless its games like crysis 2, 4GB is usually pretty solid, but some people go for 8GB just for that extra breathing space. Personally I'm buying a PC with 16GB RAM, but thats only because I'm completely mental!

The actual speed has very very little to do with performance, maybe 1 or .5 fps at most times.

I would get 4gb now for a budget machine, 6-8 if I could afford it. But thats just becuase more is better, over 4gb RAM and performance increases are minimal.

I have played a good bit of games, not too many brand new ones, but I have seen some recommended requirements say 3gb, I think I have seen maybe 1 or 2 that said recommended 4gigs of ram.. But most need around 2 or under, but sure some newer ones are gonna naturally take more RAM to max.

What...? A single game will most likely have a memory footprint bigger than your whole OS and everything else running on it.

Like everyone else said not that much. You will need a strong video card and CPU in order to run anything maxed out.

Among the complaints people have about the game, I haven't heard much in the way of it needing a lot of memory.
