There is big discussion on how to call them. I think that MOBA(Multiplayer online battle arena) is the best description. What is your opinion?

Well, I hear MOBA becoming more and more common, but there is a huge problem with that term... it doesnt necessarily have to be online. I think Aeon of Strife-like games is the best term for them.

MOBA, would you call Call of Duty a Doom or Duke Nukem game? they're also an RPG-RTS hybrid not an RPG or RTS subgenre.

Yeah, MOBA is the common term. the hard part is deciding what the sub-genre fits into. I say strategy.

Got any proof of that number?

DotA was ok at best, but its just got boring after 2-3 rounds.

Why would that matter? You don't like the genre. Just stay away from topics like these.

I have seen league of legends in the top 3 of alot of the main game activity trackers, and it's popularity has doubled multiple times in the time i have played it according to the dev. Which seems legit considering the server strain issues they have encountered in that time period.

On topic: I never really understood the reason for using game titles to describe a game type rather than a genre/sub-genre. So i use the term MOBA.

For people who actually played a lot of WC3 they were called AoS maps.

Aeon of Strife in StarCraft 1 was the orignal.
